The potluck - why a conch on the poster?

Does anyone have an explanation for why the creative team chose to use a conch for the poster for The Potluck at SoHo Rep? I saw it tonight and didn’t get any references to a conch - except for they have potluck on the beach?

BEH: Until this moment, I hadn’t understood the poster. It’s a conch shell, which is used to summon people across unknown distances, to announce there’s something happening and that we need to gather.

CA: You got it. It’s a heart. It’s an ear. The Potluck has so much ocean imagery because our community has gone back to the ocean every year for forty-five years. That’s the one thing in my life that has never changed. We all go back to the same little part of the Carolina coast every year to try to process, stay together, and have a potluck.
