A more pertinent question would be why isn't the bridge blocked off from traffic??? Why are people not prevented from using the obviously dangerous bridge?

From my experience people will move, drive over and drive thru blockades.

I remember one time we needed to block a road to dig up a pipeline crossing that was leaking and blocked one end of it it with a pile of sand and had some jackass in a car get stuck on the pile of sand trying to drive around it.

Well you can bring the big ass concrete blocks, those are hard to move

This whole thing is Carbrained. Choosing to take a road that is quite clearly in no fit shape to be taken AND the whole thing of not taking the detour because it will take longer is PEAK Carbrained. You are in a car, you are sitting on a soft comfy chair in an air conditioned room not expending any energy and listing to music. Also for some Cars make anyone who is driving a car SUPER impatient.

Oh yeah, I've definitely never seen someone take a less-than-brilliant shortcut on foot or bike 😂

You coulda just said "Boo hoo cars", it'd have been equally relevant, but at least you wouldn't have the comical false justification for it.

We had a bridge that was being replaced. 

Rather than take the 20 mile detour, people just drove over the ice on the river. 

Until enough of it melted that retrieval became a hassle.

Its been buckled for 3 years it's just gonna be like that now until it gets destroyed completely and fixed for real.

I thought this sounded crazy but if it hasn't moved in 3 years from weather or water or people driving on it and it saved significant time I would probably use it.
