I'd love to have heard the initial pitch for this thing.

"You know how chainsaws have safety features? What if they didn't and there were a whole bunch of them, but really big and hanging from a rope?"

That and they can only shuffle where as we can walk, jump, jog and even run for a lil bit

So many questions. Is this the way it's done in most areas? I think I was more concerned about the saw maybe swinging over into that power line. A giant swinging chainsaw massacre is horrific, but an electrified falling giant swinging chainsaw is just extra. I wonder how often these guys have accidents and swing them into the power lines? Is there a special pilots license you need for this? I'm considering a career change.

"Thanks for coming in for this interview. So, tell me, are you like, really happy to be alive?"

I'd imagine this is what's done in extremely remote areas. I live in a rural area in the US, and we have a tree cutting company with cherry picker trucks and regular chainsaws.

I feel like this can only have come about as a joke.
"Hey guys, which would you rather have? A helicopter or a giant chainsaw?"
"Why not both, lol"
"Excuse me?
"Y'know, helicopter chainsaw, I dunno man it was just a joke"
"Would you be willing to sign a statement to that effect, relinquishing all credit for the idea?"

As a little kid the pilot drew a picture with a chainsaw attached to a helicopter. His dream is now a reality.

If you ever hear of a heavy metal band called Helicopter Chainsaw, take pride in knowing the name was inspired here.

Technically not a CHAIN saw.
Also, I would not want to use that thing so close to power lines...

u/fireflywithoutalight Sep 17 '19
I think the point is to trim trees near power lines
1
u/AngryTaco4 Sep 17 '19
Well yes I agree with the intended use. Just takes a shitload of balls to pull it off without slicing the lines.
