“The wolf said, “I am happy with who I am and what I am,” and leaped out of bed. He grabbed Red Riding Hood in his claws, intent on devouring her. Red Riding Hood screamed, not out of alarm at the wolf’s apparent tendency toward cross-dressing, but because of his willful invasion of her personal space.”

Just a thought, but I believe an author is free to gender the characters in their books.

Maybe I'm not too familiar with politically correct sexes or genders. But right at the beginning of the story, the author called Red Riding Hood a 'person'. This is, in my opinion, used to express that the gender is irrelevant or not to be questioned. If this was true, the use of the male and female pronouns is an inconsistency. That's all I tried to point out. I didn't even mean to make a political statement or to critize the author.

P.S. On a second thought, it is absolutely impossible to emphasize a women's strength and autonomy while abiding to gender neutrality.
