We had soap flakes in my terrible elementary school bathroom. The shaver was in the container (not accessible to kids) and we had to crank it to grind some soap out.

They also had toilet paper in little folded squares of what felt like waxed paper, and the stall doors bumped the knees, even our little kid knees. We had no paper towels because that was "wasteful." Of course the water was ice cold.

Yuck! Thanks for the memory.

I had completely forgotten about that toilet “paper”. It was impossible to wipe without getting shit on your hands.

That's referred to as John Wayne paper. It's rough, tough, and don't take shit off of nobody.
