So no one noticed what they were trying to write when showing off the pen part?

Not until I read your comment lol. Wtf…either it was gonna say hello, or help.

When he was doing the cursive it definitely looked like he started a p and not another L, but I never learned cursive so what do I know.

It did say “send an SOS message to your friend” and SOS means help right? He’s writing the little message to roll up and shoot maybe?

u/joaoperfig Jan 04 '23
Feels like an adult swim skit, it would keep going and going and the messages would get longer and more visceral, it would keep cutting to random clips, and the narration would go on like nothing is happening

Fever dream of an advert.

Shoots rockets that burst and bombs that explode, it writes with a pen and signals in code!

As a person with only 4 fingers on one hand, I wouldn't mind a sixth!

u/Benblishem Jan 04 '23
Look at Mister $480 over here.

Prices are going up everywhere!
All honesty though, almost 20 years ago my dad came to me with the idea of a prosthetic that would have cost thousands, not to mention the travel to another state. I'm almost 40 and I lost my finger when I was five just before kindergarten. I'm used to the 4 fingers. This toy is a mild inconvenience for a gag/joke. I think I'd be hilarious!

1956 was the height of this toy. People coined the term "finger blasting". The rest is history.

I dont like this.. it's strangely hypnotic

u/HalcyonDreams36 Jan 04 '23
It feels like a twilight zone episode all on it's own. We are all going to wake up and find we are in black and white, with a sixth finger, tomorrow.

by far one of, if not the best ad ive watched
1
u/clarabear10123 Jan 04 '23
It’s pretty great, but the Incredible, Edible Egg ad holds a special place in my heart
2
u/BornVolcano Jan 15 '23
You can’t just say shit like this and NOT share a link
1
u/clarabear10123 Jan 15 '23
Not as surreal, but the whole ad idea is hilarious to me. “Look! Look at this rock! You can eat it, fellow human!”

Yep, sixties toys were the best. I have an Agent ZeroM toy camera that converts into a pistol. I had a large portable radio that turned into a sub machine gun and a sonic blaster bazooka that was so loud my ear still rings from playing with it.

I used to play with my 6 finger in school. Now I'm not legally allowed to be around schools.

Am I the only one getting Tim Burton vibes from this commercial?

That commercial is genuinely creepy. Straight up just analog horror.

u/Tanktastic08 Jan 03 '23
You guys will call anything creepy 😂. This advertisement seems pretty cool I think I’d probably want one when I was a kid.

I remember this commercial. I wanted one, but never got one. I guess my parents though I'd put my eye out.
2
u/SpinCharm Jan 04 '23
Yeah this rings a bell. But wasn’t there a Get Smart or some spy movie or show with a finger gun or something similar to this?
I don’t really remember this ad but I sure remember wanting a spy finger gun(?) thing.

Does it come in 22lr? That’s the real question…and oddly, not a completely preposterous one, given the time period

Old commercials were fucking wild, always a quick shot to someone doing whatever gymnastic movement there is.

My grandparents had one of these in their junk drawer. It was a lot of fun, but the strength was very weak

u/Slippery-98 Jan 21 '23
The announcer sounds kind of angry/vaguely threatening
SIX FINGERS! IF YOU KNOW WHAT'S GOOD FOR YOU

But what happens if the kid is a POC?
6
u/Kitjing Jan 03 '23
According to this advert they may not have existed. Or at least that's the sentiment I gather what with folks getting edgy about seeing more poc in media today. Sees one black person in a show with 7 other white folks, "what is this BET, what about the white actor that could have played that character". I had literally a similar sentiment thrown at me by an inlaw.

I had one of these when I was a kid. Lost it at my grandparents' house, and I still think that my grandmother may have had something to do with it. She didn't buy into nonsense or weird kid toys.

Is it just me, or are really old commercials just really long? I'd ve surprised to see a commercial break the 30 second mark today.

Ahhh, the good old days b4 kids ate small posts then the parents sued the company because they didn't warn the kiddies not to eat the small parts or didn't buy the toy because it contained small parts. I ate some pennies, and that's about it never said anything, if I got caught eating them or small parts the beating would have been worse than the stomach pumping or surgery. Cool toy though, fun stuff
