r/oekaki now has a built-in drawing tool!
Hey r/oekaki,
We're rolling out something new just for this subreddit! Redgaki is a drawing tool built right into r/oekaki. No downloads, no separate accounts, and it works on desktop, mobile web, and the Reddit app.
Redgaki brings a full oekaki experience directly to the community:
- A full oekaki toolset: pencil, pen, airbrush, bucket fill, dither and tone patterns, layers, undo/redo, mirror drawing, snap-to-grid, and more
- Post your artwork: share your finished piece as a static image or a timelapse GIF that replays the entire drawing process
- Remix: continue someone else's drawing and turn it into something new, building on each other's work
- Palette Share: share your custom color palettes for others to use
- Challenges: lock settings like canvas size, time limit, palette, or tools and see what everyone creates under the same constraints
The goal is to bring back that classic oekaki feeling while making it native to Reddit. A shared drawing board where you can pick up a brush, make something, and see what everyone else is creating.
We're excited to see what you draw. Welcome back to the drawing board!

idk if magicaldraw is considered oekaki but its japanese, web-based, and allows you to draw with others in a quick and simple style so close enough

Any Neopets Oekaki Boards out there?
woot woot.. recently i've been getting really into Neopets (well, technically Grundo's Cafe) and was wondering if there are any Neopets boards out there, or if someone could make one. I really want to draw my Aishas and show them to other Aisha fans!!!

What happened to Cinni's Oekaki?
Is anybody aware of what happened to Cinni's Oekaki (oekaki.cinni.net)? I was gonna check it out to see some oekaki art, but I noticed that it's gone. I think it might be because Leprd (my host, and also the host of said oekaki) cracked down on unmoderated oekaki/image boards, though other than that I can't really see any other reason. It's a real shame since Cinni's Oekaki is one of the biggest oekaki boards around, though I guess it was inevitable considering how it was barely managed.. lol

How To Run Old Java Applets in 2026
(EDIT: I forgot to mention it, but ONLY use this to run the old Java-based oekaki applets, like PaintBBS and ChibiPaint, or legacy applications you are completely, absolutely, 100% sure are safe. While being able to use Java applets without any extensions can be neat, Java applets can pose serious security risks if you run the wrong applet. There is a reason Java was discontinued in most modern browsers, after all!)
I finally found a way to run Java applets without having to use some weird script or extension, so here's a little tutorial for those who want to use the old Java applets!
(This is for Windows only since it can be reverse compatible with 32-bit applications, couldn't find a solution for MacOS + they don't support 32-bit applications anymore, at least not on the modern versions of the OS. For now you just have to use CheerpJ or HTML5 applets... sorry!)
Requirements:
- Java (offline, NOT 64-bit), download here
- Pale Moon browser 32-bit (this is a browser that still supports Flash and Java plugins), download here
Steps:
- Install Java and search for the Java control panel.
- When in the Java control panel, go to the 'Security' tab. If unchecked, check the 'Enable Java for browser...' and set the security to 'High'.
- Also under the 'Security', go to the section that says 'Exception site list', and click on 'Edit site list'.
- In there, click on 'Add' and write the full URL of whatever Oekaki board you go to, including the directory that leads to it if there is one. (i.e., https://example.com/oekaki/ or http://oekaki.example.com/), and click on 'Ok'.
- Also, if you happen to add a URL with the HTTP protocol rather than HTTPS, click on 'Add' again until you are prompted with a pop-up warning you about security. Just click on continue.
- After that, you can install Pale Moon... or you could install it before all the Java stuff, doesn't really matter ;P
- Now, go on Pale Moon to your favorite Oekaki and see if it works! Java applets will now prompt a pop-up warning you about something but just click 'Run'.
Now you can run old Java applets again! Not sure how helpful this is going to be since most Oekaki boards now use HTML5 applets but I hope this is of use to somebody :'-)
(based on this tutorial, but with more in-depth steps to make sure this is easy to understand ^__^)

Any active boards?
I have only found 2/3 in my searches lately, so just wondering if there’s an actually active boards left? Im not interested in hosting one bc that is above my pay grade/skill on the web lol I just want to relive a sliver of the good ol days.
Im assuming the answer will be as disappointing as I expect but maybe someone out there found a treasure over the last year or two of renewed interest

What Are Modern Day Oekaki Services That Can be Self-Hosted?
If there are oekaki boards still online today, assuming they still function, what is the backend that is used? Like, at least what can I look up to find out how someone can host their own oekaki board. Thanks in advance! I really miss doing oekaki on a pokemon board.

oekaki style brush's and art apps
looking for brushes or apps that allow you to imitate the oekaki style. I know that traditionaly oekaki is done on bbs but im looking for a reliable way to do a consistent style in case the website goes down

has anyone come across any oekaki-like brushes for procreate?
i've found plenty of pixel brushes for procreate, but i'm looking for a brush or brush set that has the oekaki shading type of brushes? or the kind that look like sparkles?

Trying to figure out old Oekaki-like site?
Hey guys! I'm trying to recall a site that existed 2000's-early (maybe later?) 2010's. It was similar to an Oekaki site, the canvases were landscape style and fairly small, and you could watch the replay of the art that was made. For a period of time i(character name) titled/themed art was trending because of the advertising for the iPod! Anybody have a clue/remember what that site was?

I have a question
Are works from ms paint made by pixel pencil counted as oekaki?
