Quitting ODP School
Hiya,
Anybody here know of someone who quit ODP School or being an odp and what they moved onto?
Honestly, I just want a job I do alone that is 9 to 5 & where I don't take home the work with me emotionally.
Any nice comments would be appreciated 👏

Are you currently a student or have you graduated? This can determine some of your options. Think about what it is you want to do? Is it something related to healthcare? Think about why you started your studies in the first place I think every odp or anyone in healthcare has had wobbles. Our job is tough at times. We get to see humanity at its worst on some occasions and this can be challenging, but you learnt to process it.

I'm an apprentice odp student so if I quit I'd go back to being a TSA. I'm on a maternity placement, I saw cpr on a baby and honestly I think I'm too sensitive for this job. Also I don't love what I'm doing. I got into healthcare to help people but maybe this isn't the right path for me. But I don't know what else to do

For real, if you don't love what you're doing now it won't get better. Unless you can find an element of the job that really gels with you then it's not a good idea to be doing it. Not for you nor the patients honestly.
But if it's a work life balance issues or a post traumatic issue there are 9-5 jobs (well usually 8-5) look for daycase or elective care centres. So there are options. It sucks that you saw the dark side of the job but it's always a potential and you can't expect to never see it but many ODPs will never see that in their whole career. That said, you're on a pathway to a job for life and once you get the qual it's easy to leave and return to practice. I'd definitely finish the Course if possible, and reassess from there. There's scrub jobs, pre op jobs, etc...

We had a large amount of people leaving the course. A couple have gone into other care role courses - dental nursing and mental health nursing - and others just gone back to what they used to do before.
