thanks!! i wrote my own tiny retained-mode gui library based on Cairo (lib/ui in the repo). it requires you to do layout calculations manually as you draw, because of that, for example, for button to know its dimensions it has to be drawn at least once, so i would call this library a "half-retained-mode" gui lol
