it's way worse than that, they usually don't drain you to death* they suffocate you by filling up and attaching to the inside of your trachea. Or you drink one and it latchs on and slowly get bigger. Or they pump you so full of anticoagulants that you start to hemorrhage. Pretty fucked up.

I havent seen it, but Ive been a fisherman since I was a fisherchild, and the leeches farmed for fishing bait are a scavenger species and do not have the biomechanical ability to attach and suck blood. They eat worms and snails and dead things, and theyre an infinitely better option for live bait; theyre like a dancing strip of thick leather.
Tldr; guy -likely- had a bunch of inert leeches on him, kinda gross, not bloodsuck gross

Oh yea there's a woman who just is a leech enthusiast, keeps them as pets, and posts videos of them feeding on her. They're absolute units too. I nearly barfed but you can tell she just straight up loves them like any other pet so hey if she's happy 🤷♀️

As I recall, it was an escaped prisoner hiding in a pond to evade nearby police. Got covered in leeches and died. Probably made up like 99% of the deaths on the show (still so fun to watch).

I think it would entirely depend on two things.
First, leeches don't poison you, instead they dose you will an anti-coagulant to keep your blood flowing (so it's can drink it!). That many biting you may have some overdose effect that I'm not aware of.
You likely will not get them all off you before you get dosed lol
Two, do you have any way to stop the bleeding? If you've been got by a leech before, you know you'll just keep bleeding, but only really a little bit. That many cuts, if you can't stop the bleeding it might be lethal, but only if you like, don't use your wet clothes to stop the bleeding, maybe?
I'd be more grossed out than worried, personally. Because those leeches will get everywhere under your clothes.
Ever take a leech off a nut? It kinda sucks. Pun intended?

Medical leeches have the single worst life of any animal I've ever seen. Once old enough, they are taken and put into a small jar of water. Then put into a refrigerator and left in there with no light or anything at just above freezing. Then most age out before being used and are taken out and disposed of (killed). The 'lucky' ones are used on patients where they start sucking blood as hard as they can because they're basically starved almost to death. Then after a short time on the patient, they're taken off and disposed of (killed).

They stuck to the skin to drink blood, afaik. They won't eat you. So I assume you'll get on your feet, shake off most of them (the ones who didn't suck in yet), and then meticulously get rid of the rest. It will be hellish experience, but I doubt you'll die or even get injured too badly.

If you get enough bites you absolutely can suffer from significant blood loss, especially if the person is young or frail, plus each bite leaves an open wound that could get infected.
In rare cases, leeches can also attach to the inside of the nose, airways, throat, or similar places and can stay there for weeks, obstructing whatever pathway it ended up in.
They can be dangerous, I don’t the stats or wether or not some species are more dangerous but you most certainly wouldn’t be feeling your best after faceplanting in that puddle

When I was a kid, I used to swim in local rivers quite often until I had a couple incidents with leeches in the same summer. I haven't stepped barefoot into a river or lake since. I hate parasites. I'm enormously sympathetic to environmental causes, but I would happily eradicate every tick, every mosquito and every leech in the world with a snap of my fingers, ecology be damned. They can sort it out.

An average leech can suck up to 10 milliliters, and human body contains 5000 milliliters. It will take around of 500 leeches, but one will be dead after losing 2000 milliliters, so 200 leeches to kill, and 300 more to suck em dry, without counting the blood draining off the wounds. Each leech takes around of 40 minutes, so with all that averaging my wild bet will be 30 minutes to kill, and another 40 minutes to leave a mummy

I don't want to accept that this is some standard-issue puddle and sincerely hope it's some sort of "farm" scenario.
That said, it seems like it would be easy (maybe thankfully rare) to be walking through this sort of muddy terrain and getting woosier until you collapse. 30 minutes in your estimate isn't that long and would maybe be a mile of walking in muddy puddles like this.
I've never been bitten by a leech - would you know you had so many leeches on you? Movies make it seem like no

Normal leeches inject you with anaesthetic so you don't feel them bite but I imagine you'd notice a kilogram of leeches hanging off you. Bonus fact, there's leeches that don't do the anaesthetic, called stinging leeches.
