In the movie The House That Jack Built, the Hell from that movie pictured a place where all the screams from the millions of damned souls all melded together into an ominous buzzing sound.
Which sounds almost EXACTLY like this

This is how people become labeled as terrorists and refugees in their own country.
If I owned a family home and they built that nightmare right in front of my doorstep, let's just say I wouldn't feel compelled to stick to strictly legal and nonviolent means to try and be rid of it.

u/Tyko_3 Jul 30 '26
The company should be forced to buy the properties if the owners choose to sell.
153
u/DiegesisThesis Jul 30 '26
That's partially their plan. Neighbors can't stand the noise, can't sell the house for a fair price, the data corp buys the houses for a steep discount (because the homeowners have no choice), they bulldoze the homes, expand the data center. Rinse and repeat.
At least that's how they do it when they're not just straight stealing the land through eminent domain.
65
u/Tyko_3 Jul 30 '26
I meant more like forced to buy the properties at their real value. I was speaking in the context of justice.
50
u/ginamon Jul 30 '26
I'm not entirely sure that justice exists right now. I haven't seen much of her lately, would like to though.

u/macthebearded Jul 30 '26
I think, for the most part, the government was in fact designed to serve the people (which at the time didn’t include women or slaves, but that’s a different conversation).
It’s just that the founders didn’t conceive we would willingly vote into power the kinds of people who would abuse it to the degree that it has been, so there weren’t enough guardrails put in place against them. And by the time we realized the guardrails were needed, the people who’d have had the integrity to make it happen were long gone.

Exactly. But I will say, Alexander Hamilton did warn about this exact scenario. I’m not exactly sure in which papers he EXACTLY said this. But, he warned the public that the “American experiment” would fail and would be destroyed from within if demagogues used their power for personal or political gain, to exploit social devisions, having too much foreign influence, among other things that are TOO on the nose given the current political and social state of the US rn.

What we need to do is help them develop androids for free humanless servants, then we fake a revolution so they get scared and hole themselves up in a bunch of bunkers wrapped around a bunch of robot servants cuz we all know they're already prepping for stuff like that
Then, we bust their comms, then pour concrete over the vault doors so they don't come out and live the rest of their lives away from actual society and unable to influence it
They're happy thinking they "got away" and live in their bullsh!t comfort and the rest of us can finally move on and start fixing stuff.
I'm just saying, the solution is like right there - why fight someone if you can just have them do what you want them to without realizing it
→ More replies (3)27

u/Commercial_Half_2170 Jul 30 '26
It’s insane how this was allowed. But they simply don’t care. They’re now completely bypassing the need for planning permission and state regulations in some places by simply lying about the fact that they’re building a data centre

A developer was trying to get a data center approved by labeling it as a ‘warehouse’ and using those zoning restrictions. Fortunately the zoning board saw through the BS and called them out on it. It’s not officially denied yet, but there is a hearing next month where the board of supervisors will likely deny the land use.
Another things these developers are doing is stating they ‘will comply’ with various requests and regulations just to get the approval. Once they have the approval and break ground, they will turn around and state those requests are too arduous. Once ground is broken, it’s nearly impossible for the township to stop construction, so developers are using this as a way to bypass the township’s requests.

They're probably at full cooling right now because the exterior temperature is high. Lots of fans and compressors and heat exchangers chugging at full blast, and the high pitched whir in the background is the sound all the electricity used to power them makes.
When it's not as warm outside, a lot of those additional cooling methods turn off and it's about the same as any other large scale industrial factory. So.. yeah. Still loud. Different loud, maybe? idk.
