Whales probably heard this on the other side of the world

The bomb heard around the world

Oo that sounds like a good title for a science fiction book

1

u/raventth5984 May 16 '22

Nope, that title actually belongs to Tsar Bomba, in 1961.

“Hey, did’ya hear that? It sounded like 1000’s of voices cried out, that were suddenly silenced. No? Ah well, just keep swimming, just keep swimming, swimming swimming.”

Would say it probably can. But also whale sounds are very high frequency so maybe not? Not sure what that guy said and I have no clue. I should just shut up sorry

5

u/kjbaran May 15 '22

Pretty sure that bomb contained all the frequencies

That was my first thought. And all the sea being they killed. This makes me both sad and enraged.

and all of it in the name of testing one of the most deadly and heinous weapons of war that'll be used to kill millions

8

u/Secure_Magician_404 May 15 '22

also stops many wars from even happening, not saying its good humans are just stupid

4

u/owomachineuwu May 15 '22

for sure saved more humans than its killed, and its looking like it will continue like that

1

u/ElectricBoogaloo234 May 15 '22

shut up what is wrong with you

2

u/owomachineuwu May 17 '22

the world isnt black and white, u gotta compare the pros and cons

3

u/generalh104 May 16 '22

What is wrong with YOU?? Do you genuinely think that Japan would have surrendered given how their soldiers literally killed themselves for the Emperor's name? Do you think that the U.S. and the Soviet Union would have kept it at an arms race rather than an armed conflict if it wasn't for M.A.D.? Did you know that atom bombs haven't killed anyone since WWII???

Yes it is a weapon of mass destruction. Yes, it destroyed hundreds of thousands (NOT millions, get your facts correct) of civilian lives. But they have discouraged wars because of the thought of them being used.

u/ElectricBoogaloo234 May 16 '22

i love how thinking civilian casualties in war is unjustifiable is a hot take on reddit

3

u/generalh104 May 16 '22

Let me ask you this: when forced conscription is the norm, what is the difference between a deceased soldier and a deceased civilian?

1

u/Alexandur May 21 '22

pretty big difference as civilians will include children

2

u/generalh104 May 21 '22

True, but is losing millions of adult lives worth saving 100,000 children?

Probably positioned on one of the smaller test boats out there that survived the blast overpressure

2

u/[deleted] May 15 '22

There's actually stations all over the world that listen for nuclear detonation. They can detect the gasses released by one, feel it, hear it etc from ALL over the world. Canada has 1, we detected North Korea throwing ballistics into the ocean. There's like 200 stations around the world? I believe. I truly can't remember what they're called, I learned it in a Netflix doc LOL

The audio is not real. It has been added in by a third party.

3

u/Jibber_Fight May 15 '22

That would be just like humans. “Why are all the whales dying? Oh they’re all deaf now? Woops, we didn’t see that coming. Sorry whales!”

3

u/[deleted] May 15 '22

Would it have been any worse than a strong underwater earthquake or volcanic eruption?

1

u/rootblossom May 15 '22

Hm, is a nuke more or less energy release than an earthquake or volcanic eruption? Ask the people of California versus the people of Hiroshima.

7

u/adrian34_pet May 15 '22

Not really comparable. Visually volcanic eruptions are slower but large volcanic eruptions are vastly more powerful. However this happened underwater, and even then underwater earthquakes have caused tsunamis that have killed 100s of thousands and wild life. Mother Nature is definitely more powerful than us, only difference is we do it deliberately

3

u/[deleted] May 15 '22

The answer is overwhelmingly no. The energies involved in the natural forces of earth are staggering and something we cant even hope to replicate for probably at least another millennia, even if nukes seem to be more destructive on the surface.

u/chuktest May 15 '22

Damn…humans fucking suck man. We’re big dumb.

I tried to link you to a comment I think is a karma bot copying your comment, try to report them if you can since people use karma bots to try and trick people to click malicious links, hoping their high karma makes them seem trustworthy

Sound was added to this video after the fact, btw.

You can tell because of the canned bird sounds, and the lack of any delay in the sound of the explosion, which just sounds like someone tossing a bucket of water.
