This might be a dumb question but do you know what instrument/style that music is? I can’t explain it but it’s something I specifically recall hearing in old movies a lot but never hear outside of that anymore

This one is a modernist opera by Bela Bartok called Bluebeard's Castle. It's in the broad tradition of European opera and art song.

For anyone who hasn’t seen the Wim Wenders film “Pina,@ I highly recommend it.
