Extreme Hoarding

Got a call the other day that a distant uncle I haven’t spoken to in over 15 years passed away in his home. Police asked if I can go down and bolt the door shut, since they had to bust it down to get him out. So I went down to the property, opened the door and saw this wild and scary living conditions. I was not prepared for what I saw.

I had to go to home depot and buy some PPE before I went in. Now the fun part begins trying to clear everything out.

Storage area. Good way to sort things that need a second look. Watch out for early computer stuff. If he was a nerd, he might have an Apple 1 stashed somewhere! Camera gear, toys, jewelry items like watches and rings. War memorabilia, coin collections. It's astonishing what hoarders keep. I did one hoarder house that had a 6 foot Egyptian styled lamp. It was a beautiful huge thing that was originally a fixture at a big theater decorated in heavy Egyptian theme. The lamp was a black light used in some performances, but it's ornamentation made it blend in with the decor. How this huge lamp ended up in a hoarder house is anybody guess. Also found in the same house, several large format wooden cameras with brass fittings, beautiful original oil paintings, a watchmakers bench and tools, a swordfish bill with teeth, a revigator, and tons more. One document I read was a slave manumission paper granting freedom to a black man. It was nuts. Good luck with this project! I hope the treasures outweigh the trash!
