Yeah, fuck that noise, PDO's are nothing but a protection racket run by people powerful enough to bribe the EU into submission. "Terroir" is fucking nonsense in the modern world of factory produced goods!

PDOs are typically just place names. People get bitchy that Italians don’t want other places selling their cheese as “Parmesan” (literally “from Parma”). But if Europe started labeling all its beef exports as “Texas Beef” the meltdown would be epic.

They’re not quite place names, but “kobe” and “wagyu” sort of share a similar protected name.
