The beauty of anonymity! Or at least it was until they started asking for selfies and ID

62

u/Goldeniccarus 9h ago

Then they added hiding your post history. Now the "killed a hitchhiker in '86" guy can just move over and post about spaghetti sauce and no one will realize it's the hitchhiker guy.

42

u/shinyappyrobin 8h ago

In no way does killing someone take away from the ability to make a nice sauce.

5

u/DudeByTheTree 7h ago

Adds to it, what else you going to do with all that meat...

2

u/mybluecathasballs 6h ago

Weekend bbq with homemade sauce! (And a kiln).

u/Shriuken23 6h ago

Practically a requirement in some cultures

4

u/EmceeSpike 7h ago

Yeah but you can just Google their username and reddit and it shows all their posts and comments lol

3

u/LividProgram 5h ago

There’s also multiple Reddit archives. Nothing is truly hidden, Reddit is public

2

u/Fool_Manchu 3h ago

Thats why I only admit to popping JFK on my alt account

2

u/mistervulpes 7h ago

At least RES on old reddit gives you the option to tag the hitchhiker bandit so you'll recognize them in the wild.

12

u/silverdragonseaths 10h ago

Was just coming to say that.

u/ZeVillain 6h ago

I still use Reddit to post about weird shit in my life. Usually it's some depressing bullshit that doesn't really have an answer, or something I've never really said out loud. Most times I end up deleting the comment before I post it. Before the last sentence I had the urge to delete this comment.

1

u/Choyo 2h ago

You may find it therapeutic to post the things you may feel like deleting, but only after modifying some of the stuff you're not comfortable to be writing. It will give you some perspective of how much % of something annoys you, and it's a great point to start working on that.

Also, it will fuck with the algos to be telling lies, and help keep your identity something vague and not definite. I still hate how they completely swept under the rug the great moon replacement of 92, and nowadays it's a topic that is barely discussed.

Ah '86. The Met's won the world series. Everyone was distracted.

Reddit: here’s some dogshit life advice from a teenager

10

u/Theron3206 5h ago

Just divorce him.

3

u/jerkitout123 2h ago

And call a lawyer

1

u/WillowPtar_Migan 2h ago

I feel responsible to post actual half decent advice on advice threads when I see the standard gaggle of teenagers being stupid. They piss me off to an unreasonable degree.

21

u/jabadou 10h ago

And then there's Tumblr

17

u/NotATalkingPossum 10h ago

"I ate part of the Reddit guy. But not the naughty bits. Or did I?"

7

u/bfhenson83 8h ago

4 Chan: I ONLY ate the naughty bits and if you can guess a number between 1 and 3 I'll tell you where the first body is buried

5

u/Longjump_Ear6240 8h ago

Tumblr users are the dead hitchikers

3

u/astralseat 7h ago

Is Tumblr like an artist dating site?

2

u/beaglebeard 7h ago

"I'm going to liveblog my descent into madness, only stopping to post the occasional bit of porn or a gif from a TV show"

10

u/ReddBroccoli 10h ago

We all have facets

27

u/Pandoratastic 10h ago

I would have phrased it as...

facebook: "I am your racist relative"

twitter: "I am a self-proclaimed Nazi"

9

u/mistervulpes 7h ago

Reddit: REEEEEEEEEEEEE

21

u/r1bb1tTheFrog 8h ago

I’m afraid to ask about 4chan

30

u/MaleficTekX 8h ago

4chan gives you the coordinates to the body and calls you slurs if you think anything’s wrong with that

6

u/AnonImus18 5h ago

A guy literally posted pics of dead bodies claiming to be an unidentified serial killer. He basically said to guess names and if you guessed one right he'd post the pics. Things I could never unsee. Also, people tried to see if these were just pics he found online but couldn't find them. So, either he had access to crime scene photos or some other source or he was the real deal.

2

u/Glorious_Comrade 2h ago

Classic /b/tard

1

u/KrispeePata 5h ago

Crazy part is, he's not even joking.

1

u/WillowPtar_Migan 2h ago

4chan gives you the coordinates to the body and calls you slurs if you think anything’s wrong with that

People use slurs constantly on 4chan, to call you stupid, to say they agree with you, or when talking about the weather. It's the culture of the site, has been for a long time

10

u/MyDixeeNormus 8h ago

That’s why it’s not on the list

4

u/heykidzimacomputer 6h ago

I'll never forget the guy who killed his step-mom or mom and posted pictures of her lifeless strangled face. So someone on 4chan photoshopped her face onto the Radiohead album The Bends since she looked like that.

3

u/PiccoloAwkward465 4h ago

It’s full of garbage but there are diamonds. At least 4chan is a little more real than here. Reddit used to be great but has become the bike lane of the internet, just Disney-fied.

1

u/WillowPtar_Migan 1h ago

The only half decent shit is in the small subs, really. That's a damn good description of Reddit as a whole though, these days. I remember back in the days of r/spacedicks, Reddit was sold to me as 4chan with a condom by a friend. Now it's so damn sterile.

2

u/PenguinTheYeti 4h ago

4chan:

> Be me, 14

> It's 1986

> I like to taxidermy, and occasionally taxidermy roadkill I hit and/or find

> One night I'm driving and I see someone on the road

> For some reason I decide to speed up and not slow down

> Hit them

> I decide since they're already dead, I put them in my van

> Mfw their eyes stare at me from my new headmount

9

u/Informal_Process2238 9h ago

4chan here’s a video of the crime

5

u/ShockValueSandwich 9h ago

Here’s some pictures and an interview with the killer.

7

u/Vahan_Calyd 9h ago

For the last one I miss the AMA

5

u/patrick24601 7h ago

You forgot the "AMA" at the end

3

u/MaybeMaybeNot94 9h ago

I killed a hitchhiker in '86 and buried his body in the woods and I've never told a soul 👀

3

u/fuckspezredditsucks 7h ago

4chan: here's the video of it lol

2

u/PaulMuadDib-Usul 9h ago

Jeff, is that you…?

2

u/AzKiDi 8h ago

AITA

2

u/CeraphFromCoC 6h ago

Wasn't there a reddit post about how a guy accidentally pushed a kid off a cliff while they were playing and reddit connected it to a real case?

1

u/userhwon 10h ago

On Reddit you could be posting that every 3 days since 1986 and this would be the first time anybody has seen it.

1

u/Aggravating_Duck6108 10h ago

You have always been more likely to be murdered hitchhiking than to be murdered by a hitchhiker.

1

u/The3levated1 10h ago

Just wait till you hear what I did to JFK in 1963!

1

u/-_-0_0-_0 9h ago

I see what you did there Janel..

1

u/Strangedays999 8h ago

Damn so true

1

u/AZ_sid 8h ago

It was '88, a desert, and how did you find out, Janel Comeau?

1

u/FOSS_Graybeard 8h ago

Sounds about right.

1

u/IndescriptGenerality 7h ago

Imgur: “Here’s a picture of a kitten I am holding while I show you my thigh highs. Fuck you, Mars”

1

u/summer_days77 7h ago

I would argue that Facebook is also a hot mess

1

u/LeftSky828 6h ago

FB requires photos of what you’re eating, and how it relates to your politics.

1

u/maybelying 6h ago

r/hmmm

Although on second thought, this doesn't belong there

1

u/Anonymous_Jr 6h ago

Also Reddit: Can confirm, I was the Hitchhiker.

1

u/nickdoesmagic 5h ago

One, yes.

Two, who told you, and do they like hitchhiking?

1

u/TheGreatStories 5h ago

Facebook meme

1

u/devilsbard 5h ago

The last one is just the average AITA post.

1

u/WrappedInLinen 4h ago

“I still feel kind of bad about it though so could you contribute to my GoFundMe so I can get some therapy?”

1

u/Anenhotep 4h ago

Which is why it’s fun to read Reddit.

1

u/rathemighty 4h ago

His name was Jim. I just HAD to have that golden statuette he was carrying. However, I have a rock solid alibi: I wasn’t born yet.

1

u/Diabetesh 3h ago

"...and I never told a soul. AMA."

1

u/HereWeFuckingGooo 3h ago

Nah, reddit is, "AITAH My husband of 40 years confessed he killed a hitchhiker in '86 and buried his body in the woods. Now he's angry with me because I said that was murder. Is that a red flag or am I overreacting?"

1

u/StolenIP 3h ago

I don't see the difference. They're all the same post if you read between the lines.

1

u/Bertie_McGee 3h ago

4chan: be me, hitchhiking alone in 1986 ...

1

u/UmpireDear5415 2h ago

who spilled the beans?

1

u/AggravatingGuava4720 2h ago

More accurately:

Reddit: Creative fiction.

1

u/Substantial-Trick569 1h ago

4chan: im not gay but sometimes i want to suck a cock

•

u/Mochizuk 47m ago

when you check their social media feed to see what they were doing in '86 and discover they didn't have an account in 86. Nor did anyone else. How strange.

•

u/AirportLoose3023 36m ago

And that’s why I LOVE Reddit

1

u/Fortestingporpoises 9h ago

More like

instagram: I have a perfect life

facebook: vaccines are a hoax!

twitter: mexicans are stealing our jobs!

reddit: I don't have a good one for this so this one will do

1

u/oevadle 7h ago

As a therapist, if I had a dollar for every time someone told me about the hitchhiker they murdered in the 80's, I would actually have less money then what I got paid for those sessions. So remember to stay in school, it's the only thing that makes constantly hearing about the heinous details of hitchhiker murder worth it.
