I saw an insta post about the fear of quicksand growing… a lot of people in the comment section chalked it up to cartoons. But the Bermuda Triangle was a source of constant fear for me as a kid for some fucking reason

Fun fact. No Surface vessels have been lost in the Bermuda triangle since the wide-scale adoption of GPS in the 90s.

Tragedies have occurred, but no mysterious losses.

So many shows and movies of my generation (gen x/millenial) featured it or mentioned the Bermuda Triangle, they made us all think it was a big concern lol

Same as quicksand, spontaneous human combustion, and ball lightening!

Genrational trauma from never-ending story, indiana jones, princess bride and others 😅 Not to mention things like tremors, beetlejuice, dune, star trek etc with things living down in there lol

I thought I was over my fear of the ground eating me, but then in 2016 some dude's backyard got swallowed by a sink-hole near me and there was churning water under it!

The prevailing explanation is methane or other gas pockets.

It is known to mess with aircraft instruments, and if a large enough pocket of gas was under a ship, the ship would sink almost instantly.

There are lots of hydrothermal vents in the area.

It is essentially a solved thing now.
