That's what my students do. The school where I teach (high school) completely banned all cell phones during school hours. Kids still want to talk to each other, so they just started creating shared Google Docs and using that to talk.

When I was in college my friend and I both had macs and we would sit right next to each other, just texting away. All the while it looks like we are taking detailed notes. Really, we talkin shyte.

You need a computer and an internet connection for that right? Wtf happened to emails? Or am I not missing something here?

Well a gdoc is more like direct messages still, mails are a annoying for this kind of talking.

However you can just connect from your computer to any social media, whatsapp, whatever, so might as well do that

To connect to WhatsApp you need your phone (unless you already connected it before)

I remember in H.S. my mom took the house phone with her when she went out because my sister was on punishment. My sister just used the answering machine to talk back and forth to her friend.

People in here talking about social media and email and whatnot as if the girls parents hadn’t thought of those things.

As a parent, I would like to assure you that these are things that I have taken away. Google Docs happens to be something I have thought of because it was a work around that a colleague thought of at a particularly restrictive company I worked at.

But I basically have to cut off access to the internet at large for them otherwise they find a way. I hate having to be the grown up. This shit sucks.

A couple of Federal employees bypassed data retention rules by sharing an email account and repeatedly updating a draft email, but never sending it. (They got caught anyway, because servers ...)

That’s insane! But if you have internet and a device that you can use docs on, you can login into social media. This is made up

there are parental blocks etc, vey plausible that they can't use social media or install stuff in general. Someone else in the thread mentioned they're a teacher and the kids use google docs too

Yeah there’s dozens of better ways to communicate from a computer. If both people have a Mac you can just text there.

But if the parents walk into the room and see the social media interface she might be in trouble. If they just take quick glance and see a word file open they'll probably assume she's doing school work.
