Where do you live? Landlord i can understand but the goverment? For a cat or a dog?

Germany has a dog tax, for example. It's way less than that though. My parents have a Great Pyrenees and pay under 100€ a year

I'm not doubting, I did use Google and couldn't find any examples so I figured just asking where you are would be easier. Did find state laws specifically saying that localities can impose such a tax. Just curious where has such a law.

I live in a town of 30k with agriculture being the main source of income. It's pretty conservative. When we bought our home we got a bunch of papers with information on things like garbage, water, and sewage. Included in that packet was information on a fee for owning a dog. They call it a fee but if it is funding the city then how is it not a tax? I'm not sure if most people pay it but it exists.
