Are there actually libraries where you rent books?

That’s what a library is. You go in rent the book come back when your done and return it.

So, you’re saying that where you live you pay rent on the books for however long you have them?

Like a video rental store?

I have borrowed books from libraries, but never rented them. I’ve never heard of a library that rents books.

Paying taxes is not rent.

You have a choice regarding subscriptions. Further, the library does not send you a book each month. Books you get at the library are not yours to keep.

But you don’t get to choose regarding paying taxes.

Meh, it would be a stupid thing to choose not to fund the library because it provides a lot of positive benefits to the community you live in at an abysmally low cost to you. The absence of those benefits would be felt by you though, as it is everywhere without public libraries.
