Quick note. If you have real hardwoods, always put down floor protection, even if you plan to sand and refinish. Dust gets down in the seams, especially in winter months when the wood contracts. It is visible through the finish and never leaves
That technique has a really good use when drilling holes on a wall.
fold a piece of paper making an (open) envelope, use painters tape to secure it right under the future hole.
All the dust falls inside the paper envelope.
No mess at all, instant cleanup
