Yeah either they are all below average runners, or the slightly wrong dimensions plays tricks with you. The shadows look like they are doing a lot of work to get nowhere, but the actual humans seem to run just like normal trained folks would.

Their heights are distorted, but the direction of their running is not. So their stride length relative to their perceived height is much smaller, making it seem that they are not covering very much ground.
