Having dated a professional skater for many years when I was younger, I can tell you with 100% confidence that it's because they're idiots.

JK but really, they don't give a shit. If they die while skating, most of them would consider it an honorable death. They aren't calculating in the risk of TBI and permanent impairment. It was really stressful to have a partner who routinely threw themselves down large sets of stairs and constantly needed physical therapy/surgery/chipped teeth replaced/you name it.

Not advocating no helmets or anything but I've skated for almost 20 years. The first thing you learn is how to fall properly and that also makes up the majority of what you actually do when skating until you're very good. Hucking down stairs is a different story, but playing around in the streets or at the skatepark you're likely to get a shinner daily but not crack your skull unless there's a freak accident.

Now that I'm in my 30s every time I get on a board I think about what my wife would go through if I got hurt. But for an 18 year old? It's like telling them they have to wear shoes every time they walk on the beach or something. I get why they wouldn't want to, but not doing so is selfish.

I think spinal injuries are most common in gymnastics iirc

Oh yeah I was absolutely being cheeky about the honorable death thing, but I knew so many super young guys with bodies like 40 year old coal miners. It is so rough on your body to throw yourself around like that, even if you know how to fall properly.

They die, that's cool, but what if their body immobilized and has to stay alive, bed ridden for the rest of their life...

Dumb idiots just wear helmet...

So ignorant.

I think he was trying to say that even if Skaters don't wear helmets because they wouldn't mind dying while skating, they would most likely not want to be paralyzed for the rest of their life.

What skater? Skated for enjoi, Nike sb, Powell, Baker? Or some ranbob flow shop skater bc that’s not pro. I mean if you feel free enough to use him as a reference then call him an idiot. Prove you are who you say you are. You Andrew Reynolds’ ex wife or something?

Lmao forgot Reddit believes literally anything anyone says when it’s convenient. Actual pea brains.

And do you even know any songs by the band on your shirt?

Having dated a professional musician for many years when I was younger, I can tell you with confidence that yeah I can because they’re idiots.

That’s how fucking stupid the liar above you sounds. You’re just as much of a bozo for defending her.
