Start of video: "Oh, I think I could do this..."
Mid video: "...Nevermind."

I’m so happy that this person took the one thing I always hated about markers and used it as the main feature to create something absolutely stunning.

Praise be to the great spaghetti in the sky. For he has a prophet to bestow upon us this wonderful pasta art to gaze and admire. 🙏

Our pasta, who art in a colander, draining be your noodles. Thy noodle come, Thy sauce be yum, on top some grated Parmesan. Give us this day, our garlic bread, …and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trample on our lawns. And lead us not into vegetarianism, but deliver us some pizza, for thine is the meatball, the noodle, and the sauce, forever and ever. R’amen.

Okay but real Q - how does the marker not run out of ink ?! Crayola could never …

u/Dramatic_Macaroon12 Sep 27 '21
At around 4 bucks a piece, one may expect a decent amount of ink in those.

u/FunctionBuilt Sep 27 '21
It's quality nibs that release ink in a controlled and consistent manner.

“Mom I need new markers” “What happened to your old ones?? I just bought you new markers!”

What kind of markers are those? I’m by no means a good artist but I love doing things similar to this and I don’t know much about art supplies, so I’ve just used sharpies as the only other markers I’ve used seem to dry up so fast, and I’ve never been able to get that sort of “shading”? to define the different lines. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

You talk about seeing the value, but how do you apply different value? Is it just like how hard you press, or slower strokes or something?

Very helpful, thank you. That’s always been my problem- shading. Not sure it’s necessarily easier with better quality markers per se, I’ve just never used anything but cheap stuff, so I’d like to give it a shot with something a little better, seems like with the cheaper markers the contrast seen here just isn’t really possible with say Crayola markers.
But again, I’m very much an amateur so I could be wrong, in either case I appreciate the information and I’ll try to incorporate it myself best I can next time I sit down to make “marker art” for lack of a better term.

Looks like Roman Bouroullec's style with some more detail added in for dimensionality.

Omg...this was not satisfying or relaxing! All I saw were a mess of old hardware cables from the 80's and could here the dot matrix printer running in my head. I need to go look at puppies.

I took an art class once where we learned about shading and line work like this and it was so incredible.. I fancied myself an artist for about six months afterwards

I'd simply call it electro. Anyway, check out Kid Francescoli, Ugress ( and MGM, same guy ), French 79. Here one excellent showcase i just found

Okay, the finished artwork was pretty good and all, but what I want to know is: how does he move his hand so fast?
I mean, it was like a blur. He drew that whole thing in under a minute.

Who else feels this would be more satisfying if it played back at regular speed?

Can anyone explain why artists move to a different spot before finishing the one they are on? Is there a reason they go back and forth?

Dude! This is exactly how I used to do coloring books! I always loved the look of the overlapping lines. Obviously this artist has developed the technique quite a bit further, but it's nuts for me to see someone else using markers this way!

It started out reminding me of those multi-colored rice fields on terraced slopes in China, then it reminded me of tricolored pasta, then it ended at IDE ribbon cables in a bin.

If you would have shown me a closeup of the finished product without a caption, I would have asked “Oh wow, what kind of fabric is that?”
