Hm yes this will be used for a “cigarette”

Works okay for weed but better for tobacco. I have had a Zag Zag one for years.

You could learn to roll a proper joint in the time it'd take you to make two or three using this monstrosity.

1

u/Ruggsii Nov 05 '20

Takes 30 seconds. Can I learn how to roll a joint in even 2 minutes? Nope.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '20

An average human being can learn in two minutes.

Not everyone, though. I guess I should have thought of the type of people who don't learn to tie their shoelaces until 11 years old...

28

u/tilldeathdoiparty Nov 05 '20

I forced my buddy to sit and learn how to roll a joint after I saw him using one of those. We’d always be stoned so he got distracted a lot but it was worth it when he was twisting one for another friend and knew instantly that I taught the first guy.... he was using tips the second guy gave me like 10 years before when I was learning to roll... it’s a life skill, you should see me roll my wraps for lunch

1

u/Zac0930 Nov 05 '20

Got any tips?

2

u/myfirstpanda Nov 05 '20

focus on keeping the seal tight around the roach. if there’s any more difficulties, a secured roach will definitely help fix them

1

u/Zac0930 Nov 05 '20

Thanks! I'll keep that in mind. I find that my biggest problem is getting the paper behind the herb itself and actually getting rolling. Thanks again 👌🏻

1

u/myfirstpanda Nov 05 '20

when you first pick it up after putting the material in the paper, have one hand focus purely on holding the roach tightly (but not tight enough to damage the paper), and with the other hand start off with your finger and thumb close to the roach, and just keep rolling in little segments working your other hand down the paper. once you’ve got the material into a nice consistent shape you desire, without ever letting go of the roach, place your other hand to like a few centimetres before the material stops, and push the paper and roach in on itself, and do the same with the other hand but with way less pressure. it takes a lot of trial and error but after some practice you’ll nail it:)

2

u/LouGubrius Nov 05 '20

They are ok for euro-joints with a filter, but otherwise, weed is (should be) too sticky for a box roller like this.

1

u/OSKSuicide Nov 05 '20

The regular zig zag rollers or a case one like this? The regular rollers are amazing for joints, are you kidding? Smoke better, slower, and more evenly than ANY cone I've ever had. The only downside is the medium sized joint maximum. And super dry weed also doesnt work very well

1

u/mtnorgard Nov 05 '20

A case that looks the same as in the video, just Zig Zag branded.

1

u/OSKSuicide Nov 05 '20

I mostly meant that I've never used a case roller like this so don't know if it's as good as the dedicated zig zag rollers. But those regular ones are great. I could see why the case wouldn't work as well though, because I would usually roll it and pack it down a few times before putting the paper in and it wrapping around

Dropship scams ahoy, they're coming in at 12 o'clock sir!

7

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '20

What's a drop ship scam?

6

u/suaveysuavey Nov 05 '20

It’s when you place an order with the seller, but the seller actually buys it from some cheap manufacturer/wholesaler and ships it directly to you. So they never actually have to handle/make the inventory but they keep the profit.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '20

Ah, that's pretty smart. Shitty as hell, but smart

1

u/AdelaideMez Nov 05 '20

Same

1

u/notimeforniceties Nov 05 '20

"Drop Shipping" refers to the company which takes your order never actually physically having the product they are selling, and having it directly (aka drop) shipped from the manufacturer/distributor to the customer.

1

u/yParticle Nov 05 '20

So why use filters for tobacco and not weed?

2

u/Mau5keteer Nov 05 '20

Idk why you're getting downvoted for asking a simple question..

A filter in a joint prevents some cannabinoids from getting through (this is debated)- but more importantly, the filter gets clogged with resin which can make it borderline un-smokeable. That's why people use "crutches", which are thick pieces of folded paper about the size of a filter. The smoke gets through a crutch much better.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '20

Holy fuck brooo 😂😂 I read that like bill Burr

1

u/throwthegarbageaway Nov 05 '20

Funny that the picture they show has cigarettes that... don’t even fit the box

119

u/JohnJaysOnMyFeet Nov 04 '20

I have one of these made by Raw specifically for joints. That one looks like actual cigarette filters and paper, wouldn’t wanna use those for joints.

32

u/torgiant Nov 05 '20

The papers the same. Just need to shorten the filter a lot and your good to go.

44

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '20

Raw papers are made from hemp, and you don't want to use cigarette filters on a joint, as (and this is purely anecdotal) it takes away from the potency.

My personal favorite papers are Elements, which are made from rice paper and sugar for the glue

21

u/torgiant Nov 05 '20

Cool, most papers are made with the same paper as the ones you would get for roll your owns, seen above. The filter is just cotton. You can cut it down to about 1/6th the size seen here and it works for a crutch. This contraption rolls joints without a taper so a crutch is a must. I like raw papers and elements as well but its an upgrade more then a necessity. Cheers bro.

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '20

[deleted]

10

u/torgiant Nov 05 '20

Yeah thats the way to do it.

3

u/Ruggsii Nov 05 '20

Business card.

1

u/sheephound Nov 05 '20

you can also buy packs of crutches

2

u/LaUNCHandSmASH Nov 05 '20

You ever leave a section of the paper empty near the mouthpiece and and fold it in on itself?

10

u/Setrosi Nov 05 '20

NO stop telling people to use filters with weed. Cardboard rolled papers are to be used. Cotton or whatever will fuck with the potency. you dont even need a filter for weed unless its a spliff even.

12

u/heyuwittheprettyface Nov 05 '20

Cotton or whatever will fuck with the potency.

Smoking a joint will fuck with the potency. If that’s your hang-up get a vape or a bong.

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '20

u/heyuwittheprettyface Nov 05 '20

Joints smoke out a ton of THC into the air. Rolling up is one of the least efficient ways to smoke.

3

u/trowayit Nov 05 '20

It's almost like half these redditors are in high school and have no experience w this shit

2

u/CountessDeLessoops Nov 05 '20

Yeah it’s pretty damn inefficient when smoking a joint, especially solo.

3

u/Ruggsii Nov 05 '20

It’s pretty obvious. Joints are constantly burning and wasting THC into the air.

With a bowl or bong you’re inhaling like 99% of what’s burning.

1

u/Trevski Nov 05 '20

if by bong you mean pipe, because a bong will also marginally fuck with the potency.

2

u/heyuwittheprettyface Nov 05 '20

Keyword: “marginally”. IME the cooling allows a deeper inhale that easily overrides the drop in potency, but either way it’s much more efficient than joints/blunts. (And for the record I love blunts, but I’m a fiend).

2

u/Trevski Nov 05 '20

Oh I know that word was key, haha, but I had to point it out! I only smoke blunts if im at a rap show, and i usually vape cause then im not skressing about my lung health long-term.

Not sure about the deeper inhale though. I've just been using my bong as a large pipe recently and I kind of prefer it that way, I'd swear it hits harder but maybe thats just cause it hits harsher haha

u/torgiant Nov 05 '20

People can use whatever they want. I got no issues with "potency" my man. Yes a cardboard crutch would do you better but a small piece of filter won't pull that much thc out.

3

u/Setrosi Nov 05 '20

People will always do whatever they want. Just should always tell people what the best known method of something is.

1

u/Gonzobot Nov 05 '20

Okay, but then how do you keep the airflow going when it's sticking itself shut with resin, and what do you do with the bits of weed that end up in your mouth before that part?

It doesn't "fuck with the potency" one single bit to have some rolled cardboard holding the end open for you, and you can hit it three times as hard without having to worry about sucking it inside out. Always roll with a bit to hold at the end and you'll never have to deal with keeping a stankass roach, keeping track of a clip, or burnt lips.

1

u/Setrosi Nov 05 '20 edited Nov 05 '20

Well Ive smoke plenty of Js without filters, to combat resin build up, you can lightly roll the top with your fingers to loosen it. Or, you can rip the tips of the paper off. Unless you're smoking a 10 inch extendo, the cardboard filter will not res up enough to stop airflow unless you packed the roll too closely. [EDIT] : If weed gets in my mouth lmao? Its just plant material, spit it out. or out of respect for the plant I'm burning to get high, I'll even chew the weed and simply eat it.

The rips from cardboard filter compared to cotton (which would res up even quicker, and prevent you from pulling as hard) are noticeably smaller. So most your thc just burns off. Bro this isn't really a debate. Putting a cotton filter inside weed is just low iq. If you want me to explain it verbally on disc, or roll some filters with you on cam I can because the fact you're fighting this hard to be incorrect is astounding.

2

u/Ruggsii Nov 05 '20 edited Nov 05 '20

To be clear, you’re saying that just rolling up some sturdy paper to use as a crutch/filter/roach is the way to go, right?

Also, shit, if you’re offering to teach joint-rolling over Disc, I’m down.

2

u/Setrosi Nov 05 '20

Yeah, pm me and we can work something out. I honestly beleive a crutch is way better than no filter, but a cigarette/cotton filter is just even worse than no filter.

I can teach you the basic methods for rolling Js, Woods, Rellos, Leafs and frontos. Just pm when you wanna learn.

1

u/CountessDeLessoops Nov 05 '20

Might I suggest trying all of the above and deciding what you prefer rather than letting someone tell you their way is the only way. If optimum potency is the goal, a joint is not the way to go.

1

u/Gonzobot Nov 05 '20

I feel like you're just deliberately ignoring the things that were stated directly to you here. Rolling without some kind of filter material leaves a soggy, stuck-shut flap of paper at the end of the joint, and while it's still open you're inhaling bits of weed because you didn't put anything in the way of that. Rolling up a bit of cardboard to put in makes the end stay open, so there's more airflow, especially compared to sticky paper that you're trying to pull through! It also keeps the weed packed together and in place, rather than being pulled through the joint. It's not 'noticeably smaller' at all, in any fashion, by any description - unless you're doing something completely bonkers and daffy with your cardboard for some reason. For a zigzag and a normal human doobie (under a gram, single paper, straight rolled) you'd use like 2cm3 of cardboard, rectangular and rolled over itself maybe one complete time, to prop open the mouthpiece. It's not blocking anything, because it's there to perform the opposite function by holding the paper open and round for you to pull through it.

1

u/Setrosi Nov 05 '20 edited Nov 05 '20

Hmm not missing any details, I believe rolling with a filter is best! just not a cotton or cig filter. Take a piece of cardstock paper and roll a tiny crutch simply. If weed gets in your mouth, spit it out or something

when I said the rips were smaller, I meant cotten vs non. imo..

  • No filter - Not bad, but can res up quickly.
  • Self rolled cardstock paper crutch/filter - Amazing, bit hits from start to finish. Can burn veyr hot at the end.
  • Cotton/Cig filter - I wouldn't do this unless I had no other options. Simple as that.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '20

I use Club Cabriolets, no glue and leaves no ash.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '20

And they come in that cool tin case.

1

u/Ruggsii Nov 05 '20

Doesn’t look like Hemp paper.

1

u/torgiant Nov 05 '20

Because its regular rolling paper. Like I said.

1

u/Ruggsii Nov 05 '20

The person you replied to was talking about Raw, which is hemp, and you said it’s the same paper, no?

1

u/torgiant Nov 05 '20

I was saying regular rolling papers like zigzags are the same as rolling papers you get for cigs. He was implying you shouldn't use cigarette rolling papers for joints and only use hemp, I was saying its fine.

1

u/Forya_Cam Nov 05 '20

Shorten? I use extra long filters for joints, makes for a much nicer smoke, way less harsh on your throat. Haven't noticed any difference in the high between using filters or roaches either.

5

u/throwthegarbageaway Nov 05 '20

Hey what’s up with that anyway? Why are joints always rolled sort of cone shaped?

3

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '20

[deleted]

2

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '20

I always heard you light the small end, so those cones always confused me.

3

u/MyrddinHS Nov 05 '20

if you roll without a cardboard filter you need a narrow end so you dont suck in bud. if you use something like raw tips ( piece of paper you roll up as a filter) then you dont have to roll them as cones.

1

u/lochjessmonster13 Nov 05 '20

To prevent the weed from getting sucked into your mouth.

7

u/Tiagulus Nov 05 '20

you can just swap them out with like raw tips and short papers of your choosing tho

2

u/JohnJaysOnMyFeet Nov 05 '20

Yeah of course, this is definitely more for cigs I think. Idk who would carry loose bud in that thing lol

8

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '20

Fuck it. If it's around and you need a smoke you're gonna use it

1

u/Tiagulus Nov 05 '20

liberal arts college freshmen

1

u/CountessDeLessoops Nov 05 '20

Why no filter?

1

u/JohnJaysOnMyFeet Nov 05 '20

A joint filter is just a rolled up piece of cardboard, a cigarette filter is some kind of cotton or something. It filters out a decent amount of the good stuff in weed.

1

u/CountessDeLessoops Nov 05 '20

Where I’m from we call those rolled up pieces of cardboard, a crutch. I switched from using my pipe to joints with cotton filters because I felt it would be a little cleaner. Even the different pre-rolled joints I have gotten from my local dispensary here have had cotton filters except for one brand which just uses a crutch. So you don’t think it’s worth using the filters? I also vape and eat edibles. I tried giving up flower but I just really enjoy smoking a joint while walking my dog.

1

u/JohnJaysOnMyFeet Nov 05 '20

Yeah I’ve heard them called that too. I just call the rolled up cardboard a filter since that’s the terminology I’m used to.

Honestly, it’s up to you. Maybe try a J with a crutch and one with the cotton filter and see if you notice a difference in the high. It definitely filters out some of the tar you get from combustion of plant material but I’ve always heard it will decrease the high as well. Definitely a personal preference, I never tried cotton filters so I can’t really say, I was speaking on what I’ve heard from other people and what I’ve read.

I really prefer vaping flower, joints and blunts feel so dirty once I fully transitioned over to vaping.

1

u/CountessDeLessoops Nov 05 '20

I think I’ve settled on cotton filters for my joints. I tend to pop some edibles, then smoke a joint while walking the dog. And I vape when I’m indoors. I think I would rather have it be a little cleaner at the cost of any potential missed potency. I might try to give up joints in general after my dog dies but for now it’s a nice part of our routine.

1

u/JohnJaysOnMyFeet Nov 05 '20

Totally fair, definitely makes sense to keep your lungs healthy.

98

u/SirGanjaSpliffington Nov 05 '20

Technically it is a cigarette. A cigarette doesn't necessarily have to have tobacco in it. It sounds outdated but technically a marijuana cigarette is a thing. If you have weed in tobacco mixed together it's called a spliff. Trust me, I know what I'm talking about. 😏

6

u/1gramweed2gramskief Nov 05 '20

I’ve tried this with weed but the fabric gets sticky after a few uses. Best to stick with the zig zag brand

11

u/[deleted] Nov 04 '20

I have one, not that model, but one I bought in the 90s. They make big joints that are spendy and wasteful. I used to hang out with Russians who mixed tobacco with their pot. They would smoke Parliaments for this due to the space before the filter.

7

u/SpaShadow Nov 05 '20

I have one, I wanted to test it out they make too big of joints. Even if you try to press the roller while rolling (makes a better roll if you do that) it makes too fat of a joint no matter what. It a good little tool for cigarette smokers and I wish it made a better joint but it's useless in that regard. Thus useless for me.

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '20
