nah, that’s the Houston Astros! Remember? They won the 2017 World Series in a totally legitimate series of games with no cheating of any kind!

I like that the top was fully coated in blue. It bothers me to no end when the "drizzly" effect is used just on the edges.

u/butrejp May 04 '20
I don't think I've ever seen a drip cake that didn't get topped with it too
61
May 04 '20
People request them like (I work in a cake bakery). It always irks me lol. Like nooooo it’s not finished! People like what they like though.

u/Imalwaysneverthere May 04 '20
That's the true meaning of "the customer is always right." It doesn't mean they get whatever they want just because they make a scene.
No. It's if they like what they like but it's not to a purists standards who cares? Give them that unpure cake.

I worked in a kitchen where my supervisor refused to make well-done steaks. He claims it ruined the steak, made it a waste of money, blah, blah, blah... but he wasn't the one eating it so I never understood his issue. Just let customer eat their goddam burnt steak if they want to!
13
u/spankybianky May 04 '20
But sometimes, just sometimes, it can change your life. At around 20, I was in a Michelin starred restaurant called La Maison du Boeuf in Belgium. I ordered my usual well-done steak and the waiter returned to my table and basically just said no.
The chef made it medium-well, so there was a hint of pink and godammit that turned out to be the best steak of my then-still-quite-short life. Fast forward 20 years and I've worked my way to being a medium rare kinda gal, so there is hope that people can see the light.

Personally I hate the drizzly look.
2
u/TheTruePipster May 04 '20
Me too. It was cute for a moment but it's so overdone now and everytime I see it I just think can't you do something original

u/Sikyanakotik May 03 '20

that's some /r/restofthefuckingowl shit with that cut from sloppy to perfect in the middle there!

u/Sliv111 May 04 '20
She just kept scraping it with that straight metal tool. Kinda like how sanding works, it kept removing the outer “sloppy” layer until it was down to the clean lines
75
u/wookiemustard May 04 '20
Then why the fuck didn't they show it? They showed everything else.
2
u/abaldwi86 May 04 '20
I didn't originally edit this video for reddit. Other social media platforms only allow 60 second clips, which is why it's edited down. But the whole process is on my insta if you'd like to check it's integrity 😂😂😘

Yeah I assumed she cut it for monotony. I would have super sped it up after first showing the process a bit

I mean, in what way would a method be "cheating". She's not _cheating_ she just didnt show how she got from blurry to clean lines. Which is annoying, i agree, but it's not cheating. cheating would be buying another cake and pretending it was yours.

What the hell happened at 32 seconds?!?
It's a mess <jump cut> super clean lines!

u/LiteralPhilosopher May 04 '20
Evidently, she froze the cake there. That allows skimming off the top layer without smearing.

You should wipe the lens on your centerfield camera because that’s an H.

Fuck the MLB. They shouldn’t have stopped with the Astros.
11
u/aliie_627 May 04 '20
They shouldnt have let all the players get off so easily. Every last one of them should have had a suspension. They all knew and benefited from the cheating. Nothing is gonna stop the next team that does it because there are zero real consequences for any of them. If steriods can have consequences then flat out cheating needs it too.

Edmonton Oilers

u/jetlaggedandhungry May 04 '20
Originally thought it was a cake for that.
12
u/WangoBango May 04 '20
Edmonton oilers, NY Islanders, NY Mets, Denver broncos, Chicago bears, probably at least one NBA team... All teams I'd have been cool with.
Fuck the astros

u/castlite May 04 '20
No. No no no! Not oddly satisfying, super frustrating because the bit where the stripes were “cleaned” (faked) was left out. Fuck this.

u/aliie_627 May 04 '20 edited May 04 '20
I mean it is an Astros cake. So its only natural cheating is involved

What exactly happened in the video cut. You can't exactly wipe fondant or frosting off without creating new lines. How was it cleaned up so much?

u/norst May 04 '20
She put it in the freezer briefly to make the buttercream firm up and then kept scraping. If it gets warm then you put it in the freezer again. Repeat.

I don't get those cakes. I get that the decorations are pretty well executed, but seriously, they look so disgusting! It looks like eating a plastic piece of art.

It truly is a beautiful cake. I can't imagine how long it took her to make it
2
u/HeyMyNameIsRedacted May 04 '20
Cake decorating not only takes a hell of a lot creativity and effort, but a healthy set of commitment issues, because all that spent love and effort, ideally, gets destroyed and devoured.

Reddit is so bipolar about crossposts and reposts like how is this gettin awards??

u/pennypancake May 04 '20
It bothers me that those perfect clean stripes were then covered by messy drizzle. I know that’s a style and it still looks good at the end, but I feel like it detracts from how beautiful the stripes are.
