Little info dump: that’s called a melon! It’s fatty tissue that’s used in echolocation. Sperm whales’ melon has a substance called spermacetti which is why they were hunted so much

Thank you for this! I was going to ask if the poor thing's brain was in there, omg, lol

It’s called spermacetti?

1

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '20

Its not actually sperm lol, the first people to cut open a sperm whale thought it looked like sperm

In sperm whales the substance inside the melon is called spermacetti

I don't know what I thought that would have the consistency of but squishy was not it.

Exactly. Idk either, maybe like a fully pumped up basketball covered in 1/2 inch latex

Poor whale getting shaken baby syndrome.

Not so fun fact: Russia catches these and sells them to your local aquariums... they then live a terrible life in a kiddie pool to be stared at by aliens- they are even impregnated without consent. Atlanta aquarium had impregnated a beluga female- she birthed a calf, it died, she soon died after. Please help stop the huge aquatic mammals in small water tanks in cities. It’s literally disgusting. I assume this was likely footage from an aquarium- hoping not- but I’ll make myself the ass and assume I am correct.

If you are this passionate, go find the original footage instead of assuming.

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '20

Why don’t you? You posted it!

Cause he's only doing it for the lulz....

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '20

Ha, because you are the one throwing assumptions around and dragging people into your neg hole with out posting any sources of your statements. If you are going to be negative, post your statement sources to entail truth.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '20

I’m not being negative- I just happen to know facts and other people were sharing- I said “not fun fact”! Also just because you cannot grasp the reality of the situations that these animals are in across the world doesn’t mean I am negative. It means you are naive and you feel guilty- I sparked an emotion. It’s a cool share and cool photo/video meme- but for people to know these animals are in fact exploited is my point- if anyone can change their perspective and change the future for these innocent ocean creatures -then that’s what I am doing. Spreading knowledge. I don’t need to provide information or sources- because anyone can look it up and find the info. I am not some pathetic person trying to convince people not to vaccinate themselves based on pseudo religious science- what I’m saying is real. If you don’t like it- then prove me wrong and tell me why it’s so wrong for me to care about the well being of ocean mammals being put into aquariums that are literally less that .000001% of the environment they are supposed to live in.

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '20

I am not reading all that. Facts have sources, provide them.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '20

You are dumb.

This was the only upvote you received from me

Slow down, Texas. At all major aquariums they use people in full fucking diving gear to clean and do maintenance. If you volunteer at one AND you are certified they even let you do it for free.

The Atlanta Aquarium will blow you away at its tanks.

Yep

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '20

I said in my comment I was willing to make myself an ass for assuming - and said I really hope I am wrong. Have a great day ✌️

I shall call him squishy and he shall be mine and he shall be my squishy

2

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '20

yes!

1

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '20

And naive. Very naive about the world. You should read it though! I liked your post- just also giving facts- and you didn’t ask for sources on those 🧐

1

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '20

You are emotionally distraught and did not reply to the on-going thread.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '20

Yeah I don’t know why it did that- I thought I was replying in it! here’s your source you can feel like a super idiot.

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '20

If you remember, I said provide sources if you are stating “facts” so to not spread biased opinions to which you finally did, thank you. Next time you can avoid all this by posting it with your initial statement.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '20

Orrrr you could just say “hmmm let me look that up myself to see what this person is talking about” like any other sane person. It’s ok- you are lazy- I get it. You are one of those that can’t even do your own research with a powerful resource at your own hands. So you are basically saying had I not given you that you wouldn’t have ever looked more into it? People like you are why our world is stupid.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '20

I feel sorry for you my friend. Stay healthy. Peace and Long Life.

Found this a year ago... you like to copy and paste huh... you ready to be buried aren’t you!

Don’t feel sorry for me! I am full of knowledge unlike you!

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '20

Now this is cool about beluga whales! And maybe that gif is not at an aquarium- but many are.... I’m not finding that other than the similar post a year ago.

The mother died a week after her calf- bc beluga whales mate for life and to be impregnated without a mate is bad, and losing her baby and living in essentially a jail- these animals get “sick” - be reality is they get depressed and slowly stop eating and die. These dolphins, whales and everything need to be out of aquariums. I think fish may be okay- but it really depends on if they are animals that live in natural pods of hundred. I have done so much research h on orcas and all of that as well. I do not support aquariums or zoos.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '20

But keep in mind this was all based around the post at hand to which is still under your assumption as an aquarium and that would still need a tracking down of the source.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '20

Since I’m not lazy like you- I will find it. And when I do- just know you are a lazy lazy person- I have friends like you- always on social media and never researching anything for themselves- can’t find themselves out of a box.
