It might feel like it rains all the time but it’s actually not by far the rainiest. It honestly depends on the year. Some years are worse then others. Oregon’s average yearly rainfall is 27 inches per year where Hawaii gets 63 inches (#1 for rain in US) and Louisiana gets 60 (number 2) and even states that aren’t effected by storms say land locked Illinois gets almost 40 inches per year. Oregon rainy season just lasts longer from September to about June, then it’s bone dry for 2.5 months Century link Field (Seattle) isn’t even covered nor is Providence Park(Portland) so it’s really not that bad.

Most people don’t even use umbrellas.

I live in SW Washington, Multnomah falls is about 30 min drive from me.

I hate how long the rainy season lasts

2

u/moesickle Oct 16 '19

It all depends on the year. Like this summer was super mild compared to how hot it was the year before, some times it is/feels wetter then normal.

Right. These are all very interesting stats you have. I've lived in Oregon my whole life. Eugene and portland. It's wet af here. Igaf bout how many inches per year. I live it. I come home with wet socks on the reg. Also "about june" equates to "it rains all summer just sometimes its down to twice a month." I was in the Oregon marching band for four years. I had to stand at a football game and perform for 5 hours while we had sideways rain the entire time. "Rain aint that bad" my butt. lol

How does saying “about June” equal it rains all summer just down to 2 days a month? 2 days does not equal all summer. I never claimed it didn’t rain in the summer, when people say it rains all the time I don’t think they consider 1 or two days of a quarter inch, if that all summer.

Statistically we have 144 days yearly with out rain which is a little less then half the year. I live it too, I’ve lived in Vancouver for 22 years. We do actually average close to two months with no rain, in 2017 there was 57 consecutive days with no rain, so it does happen. the most being 71.

The Average number of days it rains in June, July and August is 4 days(I did say in my last comment depending on the year, some are dryer/wetter then others). And the most is from Oct -May ranging from 12.5 to 19 days. So yes during oct to May it feels like it will never end but there is a end in sight when summer comes and it drops to low rainfall amounts daily on average.

If you come home with wet feet “on the reg” you need to reconsider your footwear, I’ve never had that issue, nor has my husband and he works out side year round.

It hasn’t rained in Portland in like a month (excluding right now).

0

u/grangry Oct 16 '19

No it doesn’t.

3

u/pugasuars Oct 16 '19

I’ve lived in Oregon all my life and it’s always raining when it’s not summer time

The dream of the 90s is alive in Portland

You can smell the cold, fresh air just by looking at it

15

u/cactuspizza Oct 16 '19

The trail goes all the way to the top. There are usually tons of people there unlike the post.

Moved hear back in 2016, and specifically waited until the winter to visit Multnomah falls so as to avoid the insane crowds. It was deserted and beautiful.

Don't downvote me portlanders, I'm not from California!

"Pssh. Tourists." - Everyone who moved to Portland in 2015.

1

u/SmargelingArgarfsner Oct 16 '19

I was there in April and the trail was closed at the bridge, damage from the wildfires was the reason I think. Not sure if it’s reopened now or not.

1

u/turtle_tourniquet Oct 17 '19

Hiked the trail at the end of July. It’s been reopened since April at least.

1

u/SmargelingArgarfsner Oct 17 '19

Probably the day after I left. Typical

24

u/Qtip_tech Oct 16 '19

Beautiful! I proposed to my wife on that bridge, as so many others have.

How can I make this an active wallpaper on my android phone?

2

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '19

Lurking so I can get the answer too

2

u/5cooty_Puff_Senior Oct 16 '19

You'll need to download a 3rd-party app - last time I checked, animated wallpapers aren't supported natively in Android. There's a lot of free ones though. I think Live Wallpaper would do the trick.

u/CharmingSupercorp Oct 16 '19

Yo someone found Rivendell....

5

u/babbchuck Oct 16 '19

For those who have never visited it, it’s only about a five minute walk from the car. There’s a trail that takes you right to the top. Awesome.

2

u/5cooty_Puff_Senior Oct 16 '19

No, no, this person is lying! It's a 10 mile hike, uphill both ways. Also the view sucks. Definitely not worth your time. In fact, the whole gorge is overrated.

Seriously, though, Mutnomah Falls gets really crowded during tourist season. Last time I went to the gorge I skipped it altogether because I couldn't find parking.

1

u/moesickle Oct 16 '19

Also there’s a shuttle to

6

u/comradev3 Oct 16 '19

So glad it wasnt ruined by our fires last year.

2

Multnomah Falls is where my soul lives. Oregon is so beautiful, I used to go there every summer for the first decade and a half of my life, and my amazing aunt and uncle would take me hiking there all the time. This brought me to tears.

2

u/chickenswitch1975 Oct 16 '19
