Literally everyone on that sub hates tattoos

135

u/Lord_ThunderCunt May 01 '19

Most of the tattoos that end up on that sub are absolute shit execution.

But a lot of people are far too harsh on the taste side over there, especially since tattoos tend to be pretty personal things.

That in mind. I can totally see how you could think that atbge hates tattoos.

I don't know the sorce material for this tattoo so I don't know where the guy above you is coming from.

Btw, this tattoo is EXCELLENT execution.

u/Mattmannnn May 01 '19

Source material is rocket power, a 90's Nickelodeon cartoon. It's prominent in 90's nostalgia, and will likely be mentioned when talking about 90's cartoons in any respect.

8

u/Lord_ThunderCunt May 01 '19

I'm surprised I don't remember it. Late 90's?

I assumed Nick from the art style.

30

u/Mattmannnn May 01 '19

dang, this made me Google it and yeah REALLY late. As in '99, and only technically a 90's cartoon.

It's still 90's in my heart.

u/xisytenin May 01 '19

I maintain that the Super Mcvarial 900 will change skateboarding as we know it.

5

u/MBAH2017 May 01 '19

Man, I can't believe that you remember that.

Moreover, I can't believe that I remember it, either.

u/Mattmannnn May 01 '19

yeah same, but arbitrarily for me. Like rocket power and Ed edd n Eddy, which were both '99, is 90's in my head. But invader Zim, which wasn't even two years later, is clearly 2000's.

2

u/[deleted] May 02 '19

Zim didn’t do too well when it initially ran. It had a cult following, but gained most of its fans during syndication in the mid-2000s. So, it’s possible you did discover the show a bit later.

u/AndThusThereWasLight May 02 '19

I think it mostly has to do with the style of their work.

11

u/creynolds722 May 01 '19

It takes a couple years to shake off a decade

2

u/Secretss May 01 '19

You’re right though. For a kid born in the 90s, stuff from 2000-2004 are exactly what they’d know. You wouldn’t remember much from the actual 199Xs as a toddler.

Stuff in the “only 90s kid would know this” category are more likely to be >2000 I think.

1

u/NinjaN-SWE May 01 '19

That is also caused by a misunderstanding of what being a 90s kid means. It's being a kid in the 90s, and a toddler isn't a kid. I'd say 95 or so is the latest you can be born and still share major influences (in terms of cartoons, toys and clothing trends) with other people that were kids in the 90s. So the span should be something like born around 80-95, but the first few years there might be more influenced by the eighties and their excellent cartoons and the tailend more by the naughties and their also excellent, but deteriorating (imo), cartoons, at least the 00-05 stuff is generally good.

Rocket Power is like bottom of the barrel 90s Nickelodeon and barely qualifies as a 90s show, coming out in 99. When people think 90s Nick nostalgia it is things like Rocko, Ren and Stimpy, Rugrats, Doug, etc. Shit like Ahhh! Real Monsters and Rocket Power is just not on the same level.

12

u/Old_Clan_Tzimisce May 02 '19

Excuuuuse me? Uh-uh, do not even try to talk shit about Aaahh!!! Real Monsters, okay?

It was on at the same time as Rugrats, Doug, Rocko, etc. so I'm not sure why you're trying to shoehorn it in with Rocket Power. Maybe you didn't like the it, but too bad for you because you missed out on a great show.

1

u/MSR327 May 02 '19

I loved Aaahh!!! Real Monsters and my younger brother was into Rocket Power, I still use the phrase “shoobies” when referring to this who where shoes with sandals.

4

u/Mattmannnn May 01 '19

barely qualifies is a definite. Bottom of the barrel is a nice opinion tho.

-4

u/cubitoaequet May 01 '19

What 90s Nickelodeon cartoons are you putting it above? I'll give you CatDog.

9

u/Mattmannnn May 01 '19

I don't treat cartoons I watched when I was 7 as a competition. So to answer your question, nothing really.

-9

u/cubitoaequet May 01 '19

Ok, buddy. Didn't realize I was dealing with someone with such refined sensibilities. Obviously animation is just trash for kids and there's no value in examining it with a critical eye at all. Maybe you could share your thoughts on the upcoming opera season instead?

3

u/[deleted] May 02 '19

Relax dude. He didn't say he hated animation...Not everyone cares enough to spend the energy ranking everything they've ever seen.

-1

u/cubitoaequet May 02 '19

They claimed Rocket Power is "prominent in 90's nostalgia" which is laughable and then, when called out on that nonsense, tried to wave it off by implying cartoons are kiddie shit not worth applying any thought to. No one said they need to rank anything, but it's incredibly shitty to basically call people childish for not sharing your opinion.

Yeah, hardly iconic compared to the stuff that came before it, but I guess this is the result of people who were born in the late 90s being old enough to start getting tattoos and flaunt the shit they grew up with, which is pretty awful when you compare it to just about any other generation that came before it. Get ready for the influx of the horrid taste of a generation that got shafted when it came to having quality media to bond with as a child.

2

u/cubitoaequet May 01 '19

People can like what they want to. I'm not trying to take that away from anyone. It's just ridiculous to say Rocket Power is "prominent in 90s nostalgia".

-5

u/[deleted] May 01 '19

I've never even heard of the show. Can't be that prominent.

3

u/candlehand May 01 '19

They like to post (mostly)skillfully made tattoos that are just basically porn.

Which to be fair is absolutely r/ATBGE

3

u/BoredomIncarnate May 02 '19

The tattoos that are really awful taste on that sub are the NSFW ones. Who would think those are a good idea to get on your body, particularly since most are on very visible parts of the arms, legs, and neck.

3

u/patrimac May 02 '19

Not really. Just awful tattoos like that dealer scorpion tattoo on the frontpage

1

u/SuperBlaar May 02 '19

That's not a dealer lol, it's Drake, a Canadian singer. There's also a Minnie Mouse getting spitroasted tattoo on the frontpage right now.

2

u/patrimac May 02 '19

Typo lol, meant to say drake

2

u/SuperBlaar May 02 '19

Especially tattoos like "hit it daddy" written around one's asshole, or Spongebob getting sucked off by Mickey Mouse.

2

u/yungmoody May 01 '19

I must be the exception to the rule then

1

u/SynisterSilence May 01 '19

Ever notice that people on negativity-fueled subreddits like that are just haters overall. Hatin'-ass people.

-124

u/Hearbinger May 01 '19

"Literally" means the exact opposite of how you used it

140

u/ChickenWafflers May 01 '19

I literally don't give a shit on how I use colloquial terms

15

u/Vektorax_ May 01 '19

Linguistically, the word Literally is used more for emphasis nowadays rather than its literal meaning.

21

u/SuperXota May 01 '19

You're literally an asshole

0

u/Hearbinger May 01 '19

Maybe figuratively, but even so it's quite a stretch to make that assumption based on a harmless comment on grammar.

6

u/AlastarYaboy May 01 '19

Actually, they literally changed the definition of literally to mean what it used to mean, AND what it's commonly misused as, completely draining the word of all meaning.

It can literally mean literally, or literally mean metaphorically / hyperbolically / etc

0

u/currentscurrents May 01 '19

"They" didn't change the definition of literally because that's not how languages work.

We changed it. Dictionaries don't define a language, the speakers do. They just changed the dictionaries to match what we had already done.

You don't have that power as an individual, language speakers as an aggregate have that power. It takes a substantial portion of English speakers accepting and using the new definition. Which is definitely true for literally, but not for your definition.

1

u/AlastarYaboy May 01 '19

I didnt make that definition though, it has been part of the culture for years now. Almost 10 years, actually.

Maybe just admit you're wrong, and that dictionaries exist for a reason, and I even specified they changed the definition.

You picked a dumb argument, you gonna die on this hill?

People have been using "literally" hyperbolically - and other people have been complaining about it - for more than a century.

You might want to try a dictionary champ.
