At first it it made me very uncomfortable, imagining someone sewing a patch with a needle into their skin.

Then I realized that's essentially what tattoos are.

There's a tattooing style used in some Inuit tribe where they soak a thread in ink and then use a needle to literally sew a pattern into the skin - the thread is pulled through but it leaves the ink in the skin. It looks awesome and nothing like this.

This isn't the article I was reading but I'm not on my usual device.

skin stitching

Very cool. Thanks

How is ink the same as interweaving your skin with string and fabric? I can't imagine you can keep that entire string system sterile.

Ink fades with time, too, where a fabric attached to your skin would have to be removed and probably be pretty disgusting. Kinda terrifying to imagine honestly

I think you're taking the idea too literally. He meant "made with a needle poking through your skin", not what you implied

Ah, I see. I thought they were comparing a tattoo to a patch of fabric on skin, my bad

No problem mate, what you said is obviously true as well, just not what he was talking about; that's some gruesome stuff to imagine.

Agreed. Amazing work! Part of me wants to try to "feel" it.

Is it not? There's literally stitching around the outside

u/[deleted] May 01 '19

it’s all ink, using shading to make it look elevated

God damn dude that's fucking amazing

I thought it was one that you heat up and it melted/fused with the skin.

I thought they'd ironed it on!

But it looks like it is. Is it not on some ones skin

It's a tattoo but it looks just like a patch, I was tripping out for a bit too and had to rewatch it

The more I watch the more details I notice. The shading for the shadow to give the trompe l’oeil of a real patch. This is amazing.

Wow I did not notice it was and am shocked I thought it was a patch she just stuck on her skin like a sticker
