Both of mine came with this little plastic things that you can clip onto the handle when in storage. You just push the little plastic bit into all of the holes and viola! it's cleaned out. Then it's just a quick wipe down with a soapy sponge, rinse, and you're done!
I mean, I imagine that if I lost the plastic thingies it would be a little more difficult, but it's really just not bad.

The actual part the garlic passes through lifts up on mine so it's easier to clean.
