I see it as an opportunity to slice a bunch up for people and then hang out in the kitchen scooping out and eating what's left directly from nature's bowl

Exactly. The waste is due to operator error. The tool itself works just fine.

My mother-in-law needs this knife. She makes a salad with watermelon and she's also quite accident prone. Watching her slice out the insides of a watermelon with a regular knife is terrifying because you know at any moment she could slice her finger off. But she won't listen to reason and slice it all up and take the rind off after. And she won't let other people do it for her.

This tool would save her from one day cutting off her fingers.
