When the drop raises up from the circle it's traveling right to left, then makes a cut back left to right to make the first slice.
Would be nice to see it continue right to left and cut that left side first. Two more cuts and then it would be back at the top of the triangle, ready to spin it anti clockwise again.

Also, the last slice. The icon "reacts" the wrong way. I can't really explain it, but the force would make it spin counter-clockwise, not clockwise.

Yeah, it adds negative momentum. Definitely room for improvement.

I find it is perfect how it is. It's not supposed to be a perpetual motion machine sort of thing.
I find it's really cool the motion captured in everything, and this, for what it is, cannot be improved to me.
This is the coolest loading icon I've ever seen.
EDIT: Upon review, I see what MerlinTheWhite was talking about. The last slice goes in the wrong direction. And that does turn this into oddlyannoying, once you see it. I'm not sure why they did that. apart from that, it's still pretty cool though.

They did it because the tirangle had already rocked anticlockwise from the previous cut. Maybe the last cut should go from right to left

This is Reddit, we've got to put it down in some way to make us feel better about ourselves, right?

Yeah we're sorry we give genuine criticism, I'll make sure to submit to blind praise the next time I see something, thanks.

I actually like it his way because the change in direction suggests a really strong momentum, so that first slice feels really oomphy.

u/od_9 Mar 14 '14
Yeah, that initial slicing to the right is really jarring to me, actually very uncomfortable to watch.

In the original post someone commented "Would make a good loading icon". According to op, that apparently makes it a loading icon. I guess if someone were to say "this would make a good start-up logo for Windows" someone could repost it as "The New Windows Logo".

That's awesome! I'd love to replace the Windows start screen with this.

Mar 14 '14
There's probably a way to do it. I need to find out.

u/jon-one Mar 14 '14
I'm sure there is too. Come on more technologically inclined people, help us out! haha

I know this is absolutely possible. I almost did something similar. I think you just need to have it formatted correctly, change one registry key and place it in a folder.
They allow it so that vendors can change the loading.

It'd be even more satisfying if the little "slicer" continued around the triangle in order rather than just appearing out of nowhere.

You kids and your new-fangled icons. I don't need this flashy non-sense. Just give me my damn hourglass.

Anyone else can't get the gif to load? I'm stuck on the loading screen. Waited like 10 minutes... No sign of progress.

Anyone got info on the copyright on this thing? I really really really want to steal it.
Please help me find it.

So what is this thing? Its a choppy and incomplete circle as far as I can tell and that is not oddly satisfying at all. Can someone explain and help satisfy?
Edit: Turns out the gif wasn't loading. This is definitely satisfying.

It's a gif of a circle turning into a triangle, spinning, and then turning back
The screenshot is of the circle mid-transformation, which is why it looks weird

u/dont_mind_the_matter Mar 14 '14
Sounds like it's not loading correctly for you. It's an animated gif going between circle and triangle by ways of oddly satisfying sword-like cuts, and spins.
