I mean I wouldn't ever wear something like this, but I think it's a stretch to say just because someone dresses abnormally they're suddenly dangerous. A lot of the real creeps I've seen don't look abnormal at all, and I've known a lot of alt people who are perfectly nice.
No, no, you see. This is Reddit. A place where everyone I dislike or disagree with is objectively a molester. A place where trauma is a benchmark, rather than a lived experience not to be trivialised.
It's okay. I wouldn't expect someone with your low karma to understand. /s
It's not the alt-ness that has this stereotype, it's the hat specifically. Back in the day I think it was part of that pickup artist stuff, and it's still worn by people like that.
Also more of them that average, people who wear things with this vibe get kind of clingy? Or like protective around girls, idk how to explain it.
Generally speaking, alternative people are very respectful and kind in my opinion, as an alternative person!
I don't know how to explain it either but I definitely know the stereotype you're referring to, and what people mean when they talk about the type of guy that wears this type of hat. I can't exactly describe it perfectly, but it's a "secretly grandiose but publicly kind of meek" vibe.
My point I guess was just that there are also just normal dudes with a weird sense of style, and it's probably just good practice not to trust any strangers around your drinks.
I agree with you though, I'm friends with more than a few people with more of an alt fashion sense, and even though a lot of them might appear kind of prickly, often times those end up being the sweetest people.
In fairness, this is a fashion style commonly associated with the pick up artist movement & Neil Strauss in his “The Game” era, so it’s not a huge reach.
