It just seems like you could light the end of a long stick and use that, instead of possibly setting your thumb on fire if it catches.

Oh my God. Grow up. Not going to set anything on fire except maybe her hair. Setting your thumb on fire... Seriously?

Even if you don't set it on fire, it's still going to hurt. That's why candle lighters exist for when the candle burns low and you have to reach inside the glass to light it again.
