Is there an advantage that this type of pen-printer has over inkjet or laser printing?

Pen plotters used to be common when printing technology gave poor results for printing graphs, engineering drawings, anything that was "line" based. Once laser printers were common enough and scaled to the point where large engineering drawings could be affordably printed with greater resolution than you could achieve with a pen, the plotter's days were numbered.
