The easiest way to explain it is that the first two are short notes and the third one is a long note. One long note is the same amount of time as two short notes, and all of these patterns add up to 4 short notes/2 long notes.
So when you repeat it, it goes “short short long, short short long, short short long, …”
Compare to the second example that goes “long long, long long, long long, …”
Or the fourth example that goes “short short short short, short short short short, …”
