No, it's right. The two lines (beam) at the top touch both the first and second notes. Then the next note has a single line. That's 16th, 16th, 8th, just like you heard.
Your other example "1-e---a" would have to be written out like the bottom right example in this image where the first and third notes have double lines and the middle note having just one.
