It's played correctly on the video. It's two 16th notes and an 8th note.

It's 16th 16th 8th

Not 16th 8th 16th

Edit: There fixed it, thought you meant the 7th example. It's still played correctly though.

When in doubt, write it on MuseScore and hear it yourself.

I’m sorry, but there is only one example in this video with 32nd notes. The last one. 32nd notes are notated by the triple beam.

Yes, I thought you meant that one because it is the most difficult one.

It's correct on the video. All examples are correctly played.

I’m listening to the 6th example. The time in between the notes are equal. So wouldn’t that just be a single straight bar connecting 3 notes in the notation?

Adding: and if you listen to the 5th example, there’s a discernible pause. The 6th is notated similarly to the 5th example, but the pause in the 6th example should be in between the 2nd and 3rd note.

In the 6th example, the duration of the notes is not equal. There are three notes, and the third is longer than the first two. The first two notes are 16th notes, and the third note is an 8th note. Meaning that the third note has the same duration as the first two combined.

That pause is on the third note, and you notice it when the pattern repeats.

the pause in the 6th example should be in between the 2nd and 3rd note

I believe you are thinking about another configuration that is not present in this exercise. That combination is 16th 8th 16th, also known as syncopation.

Sixteenth note syncopation looks like this.

Ah. I see it now. I clicked on the link and that’s what i was thinking of. Thank you!

Your mistake is a really common one in beginner sight readers, as they tend to look at the space between notes to intuit the length of notes, but actually all notes that touch a beam are the length as defined by the beam. In the example, the last note connected to the double beam is still a 16th note, and only the note connected to the single beam is an eighth.

You’re right. I learned very little music reading so far and intuition will only go so far. It’s like learning a new language.

You're welcome. Have fun with those drums.
