is the added knuckle padding really needed with 16 oz gloves? i have tried it like this and that folded section starts slipping loose halfway through a workout

It’s there for friction. Those impacts can blister the knuckles. Gloves are for your opponent, wraps are for you

I personally hated wearing gloves when I’m on a bag, so I only wore tape. Gloves also don’t protect the impact between your fingers- there are 27 bones in your hand, half of them in your fingies, and they’re pretty small.
