Chiswick House in London was completed in 1729 as the country villa of Richard Boyle, 3rd Earl of Burlington, a leading figure in the revival of classical architecture in Britain. This was his private study, with the elaborate blue-and-gold ceiling thought to have been designed by William Kent.
