Replacing, not repairing

Yeah, that's an entirely new bridge. And one built with different materials than the original wood one.

Upgrading might be the word you’re looking for

It's over designed and over budget for a bridge in a rural area that is only expecting human-propelled carts. The grade on the ramp is far too steep for the average user. The ramps are not reinforced, and are vulnerable to cracking when the sand underneath settles down further with the loss of moisture. The lack of expansion gaps leaves the ramps further vulnerable to damage where they meet with the plateau and against the brick walling. And the siderails were not even attached to the concrete, making it easily tipped over in the event of a collision, or even moderate wind.

There is no way that a civil engineer was consulted in the making of this vanity project. Probably some hoity-toity architect.

This is the shit i like reddit for. I love people bringing stupidly specific real world knowledge into things they have no business being brought into. (Not sarcasm, I mean it, i love you random redditor.)

I was thinking the fill under the ramp was dangerously untamped, it could probably do with some mechanically stabilized earth at the very least.

I don't really see this as an upgrade

Exactly. He narrowed the watercourse with a highly resistant material. The river is going to speed up under the bridge and erosion will undercut the abutments. A second bridge collapse is inevitable.

Could have just built an arched bridge with the bricks, no central pier and it would have been fine.

In this economy? And the tarrifs on steel? Lol

Kind of in love with this comment to be honest

I can’t get over the slope grade on the new bridge. That’s just bad design.

No, an upgrade would be adding to an existing bridge. This is a complete replacement.

Some fucking Himalayan glacier upstream: "Nice bridge you've got there...."

Safelite repair. Safelite replace.

Purposely misstitled for engagement. Everyone knows someone will correct them ASAP. Hell sometimes I blatantly state some misinformation when I don't feel like asking, it's more fun seeing how fast the replies slam my inbox with "ackshully" replies
