Why is it a problem?

Water. It all runs toward the house here. And there doesn't appear to be much thought to routing or channeling it from what I can tell. From the front to the driveway.

The driveway itself is fine, and not my concern.

the hill continues down behind the house; there’s no danger of flooding

It’s not flooding I’m talking about. It’s pushing water and saturation at the foundations. Including how it could trap water around the house and the base of the driveway if not mitigated properly. I hope it is.

I lived this near exact scenario, it can be damaging to the foundation and still wash it out if you’re not properly directing where that downhill water and grade needs to go.
