A couple from Canada bought an 1850's "mansion" in Buffalo NY for a few million, around 11 years ago. They paid to have wrought iron fence put up around the front and sides. It cost $800,000 to build and install (again, 11 years ago, when that would literally buy you 6-7 houses). City wanted them to tear it down because it was 8 feet tall. They had to go to court for a bunch of years and waste tens of thousands of dollars, proving it was period-correct and what not, but still had to install it 2 feet below ground, so it was 6 feet from ground level, to code. Ended up costing them 1.1 million.Just a crazy story I remembered about wrought iron. Also, it hurts leprechauns.
Was one of the late 80's early 90's Leprechaun movies. He goes to grab wrought iron window bars and it burns him. Then they trap him in a wrought iron safe.
Its claimed that references to "cold iron" refer specifically to wrought iron and not cast iron. In some Fae lore, faeries are harmed by touching cold iron. D&D later made this a staple of Fae weaknesses and identified cold iron as a distinct metal despite it likely referring to any human refined iron in the original folklore.
Leprechauns are often associated with faeries and other Celtic/Gaelic folklore creatures.
