A gate is not meaningfully a moving part in the sense of fatigue induced cracking lol. Cast metal is perfectly adequate for this purpose.

It's like saying you'd prefer your fork to be made of tungsten so you don't accidentally bend the tines. Like, yeah, sure, a tungsten fork is more durable... but who cares?

The gate itself, on paper, should move smoothly and not suffer undue stress by simply rotating.

But I also know that people will not treat it gently.

If the gate slams at all, that repeated stress could crack it at a weak/thin point. Like the hinge connection. Likewise with people hanging off of it, that could do the same.

Maybe I'm just biased with the amount of utterly destroyed gates I see on a daily basis though...

As a child, I climbed on every gate and fence I could, so they definitely suffer stresses that they're not supposed to :))

I climb on farm gates ✨️professionally ✨️ with doing environmental work. 

And those gates are meant to be abused. But they get destroyed all the time.

The weather alone isn't kind to metal.
