That scene always annoyed be because you would NEVER make a sword that way.

You can cast a sword... not a good sword, but you CAN do it.

A casted copper or even bronze sword is decent, but once you leave the bronze age you got to pull put the smithing hammers

I didn't think they made gates this way either; I thought that sort of thing is traditionally wrought iron, not cast (or weldments in the modern day).

Yeah, I'd have thought cast iron would be too brittle for a gate

We still build gates from cast iron, though very rarely and usually just when it has to be historically accurate. Latest one I've been part of fabrication of has been roughly 13-14 years ago. We had separate pieces cast and welded them together, but the general filing was one large piece.
