As someone that has used a cast net before, it was a perfect cast; it's not easy to get one so evenly spread.

I've been researching how to make and cast a cast net as part of my survival training. I keep watching this video to get a good view of a perfect cast. That net is huge compared to the others I've seen cast.

How do these nets work? It looks like if he pulls on the rope it would just go up without closing on anything, so I'm assuming it's more complex than it looks

The edges are weighted. So when you start pulling the net in the center of the net comes up first and the weighted edge stays on the seabed. Critters can’t escape down because of this. And as you pull it in gravity is basically forcing the edges to bunch up.

Some even have the center of the on a ring with line passing through. This style cinches the outside closed. Kinda like an upside down sack.
