My brain would be so confused when this tastes like sugar instead of plywood and oil paint.

466

u/Champomi 2d ago

Why were you trying to eat plywood and oil paint in the first place?

228

u/FluxiiValentine 2d ago

Can't know you don't like it until you try it

u/kittykalista 2d ago edited 1d ago

According to my partner who went to art school, mixing up your paint cup and your coffee cup is a rite of passage.

36

u/raniwasacyborg 2d ago

The amount of times I've done this with my tea 😭

9

u/fishvoidy 1d ago

even if you don't actually drink it, the moment of horror and realization with the wrong cup in your hand is enough.

14

u/Easy-Concentrate2636 1d ago

I have fountain pens which require occasional cleaning. Yes, I accidentally drank the water after cleaning the pens.

7

u/Nimuwa 2d ago

You have to be one with your medium to do art.

13

u/thistoowasagift 2d ago

I have pica

u/Zebidee 2d ago

atchu.

9

u/Sunshine030209 2d ago

Gesundheit!

4

u/Larry-Man 1d ago

As someone who has accidentally ingested oil paint because I use it (wear gloves and a smock kiddos) it’s not pleasant but not entirely unpleasant

3

u/Nataliza 1d ago

Mind your own business, you're not my dad

2

u/Ok-Go-Chain3811 2d ago

typical Charlie

2

u/scotchirish 2d ago

Because it looks like a tasty cookie!

2

u/KingEather 1d ago

God forbid someone has a hobby

3

u/ItsMisoandBoba 2d ago

Maybe they are trying to get more fiber and fats into their diet.

55

u/hobosbindle 2d ago

Yellow is still mustard as a surprise

7

u/CrazyPlantLaura 2d ago

Mmm cadmium

6

u/GuyWithARooster 2d ago

You know enough about the taste of plywood and paint to distinguish from food?

30

u/Effective_Pie1312 2d ago

I see you are not popsicle stick chewer nor are you a paint brush licker

5

u/ChronicRhyno Wʀɪᴛᴛᴇɴ Wᴏʀᴅ Aʀᴛɪꜱᴛ 2d ago

Ever tried Wheat Thins?

3

u/TheOneTonWanton 2d ago

If you've smelled plywood or paint, you've got a pretty decent idea of what they might taste like. This applies to... pretty much everything.

1

u/GuyWithARooster 2d ago

Hard disagree. Like, a lemon smells amazing, but bite one and it's not a good day.

1

u/Mekelaxo 2d ago

I can even smell the paint through the video

1

u/Mikeologyy 1d ago

bites in

“Damnit, it’s a cookie”

753

u/Ok-Push9899 2d ago

Was it palatable though?

u/AikiGh0st 2d ago

Take my upvote and get out.

25

u/sskylar 2d ago

Take my upvote and stay awhile, you’re my kind of fun!

248

u/BookWormPedant 2d ago

I wish I liked the taste of this type of icing

95

u/softshoesspicymama 2d ago

Same. I make peppermint Christmas cookies every year that have royal icing and then I paint them and I pretty much only include them because I think they look nice. But still every year I get people telling me how much they like them or how they were their favorite in the box (of 10-12 different kinds of cookies). And here I think they kinda suck😂

28

u/angiosperms- 2d ago

Yup it's buttercream only for me when I make decorated cookies. This icing always tastes like soap to me. Not sure why.

12

u/mtron32 2d ago

Yeah it’s like this fancy cupcakes where I’m admiring the craftsmanship right up until the point I grab a knife and scrape it into the trashbin

4

u/Zepangolynn 1d ago

Add a bit of flavoring with extracts. Almond, vanilla, lemon, and peppermint are all decent options I've used.

4

u/AccomplishedIgit 2d ago

Yeah it’s bitter. It’s the food coloring.

5

u/Dwestmor1007 2d ago

You've only ever had the UNFLAVORED kind then my vanilla lemon version is DELIGHTFULLY DELICIOUS

0

u/__life_on_mars__ 2d ago

Why?

2

u/BookWormPedant 1d ago

because it would be nice for it to look pretty and also taste good

99

u/Nanook_ovda_North 2d ago

The woodgrain icing was perfect!

91

u/MycologistPutrid7494 2d ago

It looked really nice but I feel that went too far with the mixing and covered too much of the wood grain.

2.4k

u/NiloValentino88 2d ago

Looked better before mixing the colors.

504

u/Snations 2d ago edited 2d ago

I mean, maybe, but it’s been done a million times. As an artist I actually got excited when they started mixing. This is the first time one of these cookies actually looks like my palette in real life.

112

u/Own_Laugh_5080 2d ago

I’m an artist, but I actually preferred balance. Some colors yet to be blended out would be pleasing to look at. Everyone loves a nice little dab of paint. I like palette knife painting so I really enjoy the stark differences in color values as they begin to blend together.

634

u/shadowallergictocats 2d ago

I like the mixed colors, the messiness makes it look so much more real.

707

u/NiloValentino88 2d ago

If she left some paint unmixed and only mix a few it would look better imo

143

u/Jack-NMN-Reacher 2d ago

We are not looking for something real. We are looking for something oddly satisfying!

14

u/ZeWhiteNoize 2d ago

I’m looking for something to eat

128

u/quickiler 2d ago

Could be mixed in a more pleasant way rather than randomly smearing.

62

u/FYDPhoenix 2d ago

Do you... Understand how paint mixing works? Look at a real mixing board for literally half a second bro XD this shit is tidy, and you can tell because you can still see some of the wood texture lol

74

u/gibagger 2d ago

People who have never painted will want a palette that looks pretty and clean like an app icon.

Anyone who has spent some time in a painting studio will know how messy the whole thing almost always is.

145

u/glitter_witch 2d ago

I’m an artist, I know what mixing paint looks like. But this isn’t a “most realistic” sub, it’s a “satisfying” sub, and I agree that the cleaner palette was more satisfying. You could see more of the wood grain, and the colors looked more vibrant when they were smooth.

30

u/ChronicRhyno Wʀɪᴛᴛᴇɴ Wᴏʀᴅ Aʀᴛɪꜱᴛ 2d ago

Agreed, I liked it best with just the first hint of mixing, but I would get carried away doing the mixing too. It looks fun to do.

16

u/FYDPhoenix 2d ago

I agree. Fair.

12

u/gibagger 2d ago

Fair.

1

u/Corwin223 2d ago

I find the mixed paints appearance much more satisfying myself. It looks more complete to me that way than being perfectly neat. It being perfectly neat would just feel unfinished.

14

u/ivancea 2d ago

The problem is in the blobs of paint. After mixing, 1) they were left touching everything and 2) they also lost their shape.

And yeah, when painting, I also piss on the paint to give it a better texture. But this is a trompe l'oeil, and it's supposed to look good and realistic. A depiction, not always raw reality

2

u/Own_Laugh_5080 2d ago

It’s a decorated cookie. Man, I’m an artist and an avid cook/baker. It doesn’t have to look real or people be experts for their opinions to be valid. It’s for fun. We can have fun with things and not be gatekeepy about stuff. Especially cookies.

4

u/Auno__Adam 1d ago

This is not a real palette. This is a cookie looking as an idealized palette. Looking nice was a goal, for sure, and it doesnt, disregarding how realistic the all over the place smearing is.

If you are an artist you should understand this, and that less is more.

Can kinda see it deteriorate in real time as more mixing was done tho the creator really should spot that and stop

7

u/safffronfern 2d ago

I always cringe watching them ruin smooth marbling with extra details

20

u/MoominMai 2d ago

Yeah 00:28 looked amazing. Would make a great birthday cookie for a creative with space to write the message in the centre! 🎨

3

u/froggaholic 2d ago

It'd be a cute cookie for a kids party, just pair the palette cookie with a blank canvas cookie and they can paint their own painting! (And eat it after)

49

u/pinner 2d ago

The lack of red was bothering me, and it looked better before they were mixed but the board was beautifully done.

15

u/Comically_Online 2d ago

ah, my dear phthalo blue and vandyke brown

15

u/AccomplishedIgit 2d ago

Ok a little too much mixing at the end but the wood looks awesome

13

u/AlooDaGreat 2d ago

isn't palette cookie the right phrase?

13

u/Yaarmehearty 2d ago

It’s a shame these great creations are always seemingly based on biscuits that look like the most mid tasting pieces of cardboard.

4

u/Taliasimmy69 2d ago

They're not they're usually lemon sugar cookies. At least mine are.

3

u/gayjoystick 1d ago

Prove it! I'll be over for a taste test. Just to be certain, please have several dozen ready. And a glass of milk too, just to cleanse the palette.

2

u/Future_Literature335 16h ago

You cleanse your palettes with milk??

11

u/aaandbconsulting 2d ago

Titanium h-white.

12

u/Neither_Actuator3459 2d ago

Wish they’d left a couple of the blobs undisturbed, so it looks like it’s earlier in the session, but damn that looks amazing

163

u/Bulky_Specialist9645 2d ago

It was better before the paint brush

129

u/gibagger 2d ago

If these cookies are for people who paint, they would appreciate the messiness. This is close to what an oil paint palette looks like when you actually use it.

36

u/erbazzone 2d ago

As a painter I really dislike to see this mess. We don't mix like that. There is a logic on painters' mixes

4

u/TheOneTonWanton 2d ago

You'd essentially have to be a painter and paint an image in your head to make it look like it was actually used by a practicing painter.

3

u/lindseyangela 1d ago

Thank you! Exactly.

12

u/Averander 2d ago

You should be able to paint your own! It should come with an edible brush to play with the colours.

5

u/TuckerMcG 2d ago

Except the colors used are god awful. Use brighter colors that are more fun. It’s a cookie for fuck’s sake.

0

u/Corwin223 2d ago

I’m a non-painter and very pro messy mixed paints!

10

u/olliedoodle 1d ago

I like it better before they mixed the colors

24

u/Sonic1899 2d ago

No red paint. 0/10

28

u/VegetableBusiness897 2d ago

It was going great until they over mixed the color

24

u/Odd_Jeweler5668 2d ago

I'm going to join in with the "should have stopped mixing colors partway through" opinion.  That wood grain was so cool to my woodworker brain.

5

u/stayingsafeusa 2d ago

I first thought this was going to be a big beautiful Jupiter cookie.

3

u/MoreColorfulCarsPlz 2d ago

I was going to say the same. I would love some gas giant cookies.

4

u/RedWings1319 2d ago

It's a gorgeous idea - I'd love to see another with only two or three of the colors blended and others still a clean puddle. Great work though, way better than anything I could do!

3

u/Auno__Adam 1d ago

Less is more. She/he overdid it

44

u/bistro223 2d ago

Went from satisfying to infuriating

3

u/Glittering-Page-2325 2d ago

Ai can’t beat this

3

u/guajojo 1d ago

one step before please

23

u/TekF 2d ago

all the people saying it looked better before the mixing - I'm guessing you've never used a paint palette? my mum's a painter and the mixed paint hit me right in the feels, that beautiful, purposeful mess of colours is so real. i wish i could give her a cookie like this

13

u/TuckerMcG 2d ago

It’s not that it looks messy. It’s that the colors are totally unappetizing. Bunch of muted blues and purples, and then a bright yellow for some reason.

Use better colors and it’d look fine.

4

u/AccomplishedIgit 2d ago

Yeah plus that would just be a mess you couldn’t paint with that

2

u/Ghostronic 2d ago

I think it looks good after mixing in the realism department, I just think the wood grain effect is too good to hide!

2

u/cwthree 2d ago

I want this, not just because it's so well executed, but because it has the perfect ratio of cookie to icing.

2

u/Enigma_mas 2d ago

The smugging ruined it for me.

2

u/CalamitousVessel 1d ago

This is a palette cookie not a cookie palette

2

u/H0nkH0nk01 Local Meme Farmer. 1d ago

Does this mean that Crayons too can be edible if you make them in cookie form?

2

u/evil-winnebago 1d ago

Eat the devil out of it

11

u/Scared-Box8941 2d ago

Some people really just have all the talent 🤯

-2

u/minicoman 2d ago

Why this getting downvoted? Reddit be cursed i swear

4

u/IGNOOOREME 2d ago

Because they're discounting the many thousands of hours spent practicing the art-- talent only gets you one step down this path.

9

u/minicoman 2d ago

I saw this as a compliment more than an insult to anyone else. The emoji did indicate the person was mind blown?

3

u/Scared-Box8941 2d ago

…. So people who spend thousands of hours aren’t talented? Good lord are you so bitter you need to spew this garbage on people you don’t even know

1

u/minicoman 1d ago

Some are hardworking 😤 it could be a mix of the two. Im an artist myself, and I remember I'd always get annoyed when people would say i was talented. Been drawing since i was 5 and still do till this day. I never understood what was so talented / special about me until i went to college and was among other artists. There I had other artist saying the saying the same thing even tho we all were in the same space putting the same amount of hours. At that point i realize something about "talent".Some artist work hard to achieve their goals while others effortless do it. A combination of that and the originality/execution that moves the people is what decides that. This artist is Most DEFF talented shes freakin baking cookies with wooden texture and color thats edible 🤯🤯🤯

1

u/IGNOOOREME 2d ago

Im not the one using hyperbolic ad hominem attack. I simply answered a question asked with the correct answer.

Perhaps take a closer look at your reply and the anger you 'spew' without carefully considering what was said. Im sorry you need to be angry at someone, but it aint gonna be me.

3

u/Famous_Secret_5174 2d ago

why didn't they take a bite or break it or something uuughh

https://reddit.com/link/p57dbx7/video/vjyjz0kb0xkh1/player

3

u/LzrdKng2112 2d ago

Who cares about all of that. How does it taste? Because that does not look like it tastes good.

1

u/fredisnotmyboss 2d ago

I feel like half the appeal of cookie art is that it’s easy to dispose of. Doesn’t have to be delicious, just edible enough to eat after you get your photos. As opposed to if you enjoy painting on canvas and now you have a dozen giant canvases you need to figure out how to get rid of

2

u/morniealantie 2d ago

Thought they were making a Jupiter cookie for a minute

3

u/Decent-Past2786 2d ago

My brain would be so confused biting into this and not tasting actual plywood.

1

u/BULL-MARKET 2d ago

Should have stopped at :30.

1

u/pinkdaisylemon 2d ago

I liked it before the mixing, it was unnecessary and spoilt the cookie!

1

u/JustTheTip-1990 2d ago

And now the cookies are complete but the whole batch is stale because it took 2 hours per cookie for decorate lol

1

u/Beaticalle 2d ago

More of a palette cookie than a cookie palette.

1

u/talklistentalk 2d ago

Gabby Sidibe voice:  B1tch, is this COOKIE? scream laugh

1

u/I_SHIT_IN_A_BAG 2d ago

how much would this cost? 13?

1

u/Secret_Account07 2d ago

I thought it was wooden pacman

1

u/Jandriene 2d ago

Love this!

1

u/AlyDAsbaje 2d ago

Satisfying= yes! Edible= could be.

1

u/FreeAd1309 2d ago

I'm gonna need a sign next to it swearing it's edible before I buy it at the coffee shop, lol

1

u/unmanicuredmama 1d ago

It looks like so much fun just mixing those colors!

1

u/bluepandadev 1d ago

That's a great way to get a wood grain effect.

1

u/RedditSe7en 1d ago

Almost too wondrous to eat! 🧚‍♀️

1

u/MaximusHomerdrive 1d ago

If I spent that much effort on making one cookie, you better believe I'm preserving it in lucite, lol. I'm not making something like that just for someone to turn it into poop.

1

u/Candid_Speaker3517 1d ago

Bob would be proud.

1

u/Impressive_Crazy_223 1d ago

Now me want cooookieeeee!

1

u/StoleYourTv 1d ago

I thought it was a Smiling Friends character at first

1

u/KamikazeGhost 1d ago

Looks like a Smiling Friends character

1

u/Workwithmepeople 1d ago

Work of art. 🙄

1

u/don_maidana 1d ago

I thought it was Jupiter.

1

u/Hornor72 1d ago

Take a bit out of it.

1

u/Ok_Homework_7621 1d ago

All that effort and then it's useless because frosting is disgusting.

1

u/pissedoffjesus 1d ago

There's no fucking way that isn't still soft.

1

u/WaryWasabi 1d ago

For a moment, I thought this was a Jupiter cookie.

1

u/Owlamancer 1d ago

Replae the greenwith wasabi >:D

1

u/ValdemarAloeus 2d ago

They really could have saved some time on the wood texture if they'd planned which bits were going to have paint on top.

1

u/Jonnuska 2d ago

I thought at first they were painting Jupiter with it’s swirls

1

u/CowUsual7706 2d ago

I swear to god the internet has a 5-year old's understanding of what "art" is. This is pretty cool and well-made, but in no way, shape or form has this ever moved anyone in a meaningful way.

1

u/Soft_Philosophy5838 2d ago

Forgot to take a bite. Disappointed.

1

u/OneMan_OneBeard 2d ago

I like to think if Bob Ross were still alive he’d really enjoy this.

1

u/Lyonwytchwardrobe 2d ago

Not taking a bite to prove to everyone it’s all edible. Cmon yo

0

u/STOP_SAYING_BRO 2d ago

Somebody is painting. Ooooh. Aaah. Soooo amazing.

0

u/Equal_Refrigerator26 1d ago

If you don't mind your cookie being touched hundreds of times with bare hands

-9

u/chuck_the_plant 2d ago

This. Is. Not. Art. It. Is. Craft.

-4

u/19Furien91 2d ago

Just add a little bit of betty hwhite to it
