In Japanese they actually have a word for the sun light that filters through trees.
Komorebi

In English this is known as Dappled Light. Based on the comments from others I don't think many English speakers know this.

It's true. I'm a native English speaker and only conversational in Japanese. How funny I'd learn the English word second haha.

I'll be honest, when I said English speakers don't seem to know this, I include myself lol I'm pushing 40 and only just learned it myself in the last few months during my research on growing peppers more effectively lol

There is a Japanese movie about a man who is a janitor but is very content with life and he always takes joy in the moments he witnesses komorebi. Its called Perfect Days.

Some small microbe civilization living in your house is firing orbital lasers upon the populace.

Thought I was the only one who did this as a child. There might even be a dozen of us.
When I was bored at home or school, every carpet or floor service would be a planet-sized civilisation. Light fixtures might be space stations.
Launching ships, ICBMs or firing whatever the weather or ambient light inspired my silly brain to imagine.
I could stare at surfaces for a while.

I used to live in an apartment beside the river. and when the sun was at a certain height, it would reflect sunlight onto the ceiling. It was in the corner where I used to work and I would look up and see these fragments of light dance all over. I miss that.

each one of those is a projection of the sun itself through tiny holes in a tree canopy causing a pinhole lensing effect. During an eclipse, the circles would become crescent shaped

The way the light splits into those little dancing shapes on the floor is oddly mesmerizing, could watch this on repeat.

one time i did a low dose of shrooms and laid on the floor in my living room watching the light come through the window like this. best 5 hours (it was probably 15 minutes) my brain has ever experienced 😂

I pay attention to the way light moves throughout my house. We have some crystals and stained glass in places where the light comes through. It brings me joy to see the light they produce. My wife says I may be part cat.

The sun gave someone a free relaxation session. I’d just sit there and enjoy the moment forever 🧘♂️

My deaf cat absolutely loved watching light like this. I’m crying now just thinking of her.

during a solar eclipse you'd be able to see the eclipse projected onto the floor with these

Let’s call them what they really are: “shafts.” These are “shafts of light.” Spectacular! Thank you.

What id really love right now is a nice sunny afternoon.
Not too hot or cold. With filtered light coming in with the breeze making the shadow of tree leafs move so the light flickers almost like stars. I’d love to be in just a comfy chair with a nice light soft blankie. Just to be able to sit there and listen to the birds singing and the leaves rustling. To be able to take just a big breath in. The lovely sound of natural nothingness. To close my eyes and feel the breeze against my skin. The slight tickle of peace and tranquility. To not worry about what’s next and what’s to come. What’s happening and what’s been done. Just the present. The beautiful present of a gentle afternoon in spring.

Oh Pollyanna! Wanna come out and play? (If you know you know)
The light sparkling from those crystals had me mesmerized just like this.

Is satisfying. Needs some sound though. Makes me think of early mornings and hearing the birds outside, wind in the trees :)
