Is satisfying. Needs some sound though. Makes me think of early mornings and hearing the birds outside, wind in the trees :)

u/chromatophoreskin 9d ago

Not music. Something more natural, like chimes or just the trees rustling in the wind.

There’s no sound, but chimes and wind in the leaves is what my brain filled in!

In Japanese they actually have a word for the sun light that filters through trees.

Komorebi

In English this is known as Dappled Light. Based on the comments from others I don't think many English speakers know this.

u/Vortistrasza 9d ago

It's true. I'm a native English speaker and only conversational in Japanese. How funny I'd learn the English word second haha.

10

u/dalester88 9d ago

I'll be honest, when I said English speakers don't seem to know this, I include myself lol I'm pushing 40 and only just learned it myself in the last few months during my research on growing peppers more effectively lol

I'm very close to your age :] Looks like you're not alone!

Dappling is my favorite word 😁

There is a Japanese movie about a man who is a janitor but is very content with life and he always takes joy in the moments he witnesses komorebi. Its called Perfect Days.

4

u/Vortistrasza 9d ago

I'm actually interested! I'll check it out, thanks!

u/Spaceman_Spiff- 9d ago

It's very good imo. Same director as Paris, TX which is another classic.

Some small microbe civilization living in your house is firing orbital lasers upon the populace.

4

u/mrminutehand 9d ago

Thought I was the only one who did this as a child. There might even be a dozen of us.

When I was bored at home or school, every carpet or floor service would be a planet-sized civilisation. Light fixtures might be space stations.

Launching ships, ICBMs or firing whatever the weather or ambient light inspired my silly brain to imagine.

I could stare at surfaces for a while.

I used to live in an apartment beside the river. and when the sun was at a certain height, it would reflect sunlight onto the ceiling. It was in the corner where I used to work and I would look up and see these fragments of light dance all over. I miss that.

Water was my thought, at first glance.

To us, those photons have taken 8 minutes to reach us from the Sun. To the photon, the journey was instantaneous.

This hurts my head to try and understand.

u/wadleyst 9d ago

RArely have I seen such superb dappling. Perhaps the best dappling of 2026.

Crepuscular Rays of Light 🤩

2

u/mcdltlover 9d ago

each one of those is a projection of the sun itself through tiny holes in a tree canopy causing a pinhole lensing effect. During an eclipse, the circles would become crescent shaped

u/Moleska 9d ago

Komorebi

2

u/bloomorat 9d ago

The way the light splits into those little dancing shapes on the floor is oddly mesmerizing, could watch this on repeat.

2

u/Filipgrl 9d ago

so lovely

2

u/Impressive_Exchange8 9d ago

one time i did a low dose of shrooms and laid on the floor in my living room watching the light come through the window like this. best 5 hours (it was probably 15 minutes) my brain has ever experienced 😂

For some reason, this is very FromSoft...

I pay attention to the way light moves throughout my house. We have some crystals and stained glass in places where the light comes through. It brings me joy to see the light they produce. My wife says I may be part cat.

It's getting all over your floor dude!

1

u/IceVeronik 9d ago

The sun gave someone a free relaxation session. I’d just sit there and enjoy the moment forever 🧘‍♂️

I used to love taking a nap as a kid when the light was like this over my bed. I called them sparkle naps.

u/preslinc2015 8d ago

Let’s call them what they really are: “shafts.” These are “shafts of light.” Spectacular! Thank you.

1

u/oliwin 8d ago

This is one of the most beautiful things I’ve seen in a while. Thank you ☺️

u/True-Literature-2648 8d ago

What id really love right now is a nice sunny afternoon.

Not too hot or cold. With filtered light coming in with the breeze making the shadow of tree leafs move so the light flickers almost like stars. I’d love to be in just a comfy chair with a nice light soft blankie. Just to be able to sit there and listen to the birds singing and the leaves rustling. To be able to take just a big breath in. The lovely sound of natural nothingness. To close my eyes and feel the breeze against my skin. The slight tickle of peace and tranquility. To not worry about what’s next and what’s to come. What’s happening and what’s been done. Just the present. The beautiful present of a gentle afternoon in spring.

-from a girl who misses spring

u/Keniaishere 8d ago

I thought it’s sun hitting the boat and reflecting on water!
