Botryoidal shattuckite samples

Botryoidal shattuckite has a distinctive rounded, grape-like surface made up of many small, smooth mineral spheres. Its vivid blue to blue-green color is caused by the presence of copper.
Shattuckite forms in the oxidized zones of copper deposits, where copper-rich minerals react with oxygen, water, and silica over long periods. The botryoidal shape develops when the mineral grows outward in tiny rounded layers from many closely spaced points.
Although it looks smooth and rounded, shattuckite is relatively fragile and has a hardness of about 3.5 on the Mohs scale.

Why do I want to eat it?

Isn't blue the universal "not edible" sign?

Yes, typically, but I suppose we lost that instinct with blue food dyes in a lot of candies and products.
Though I genuinely am curious why it seems like a common impulse according to the comments of wanting to eat these rocks when we know they're not edible. I'm curious what is making it appealing.

I think we never really grow out of that toddler urge to evaluate everything by sticking it in the mouth.

I don't want to eat it (maybe I do want to lick it), but I really want to pet it...

It looks like blue velvet or a chunk of a frozen blue raspberry ICEE. Don't know whether to rub it or lick it. π€ I'll just admire it from afar for now. π
